Image based quantitative stratification of the Left Ventricles (LV) across a population helps in unraveling the structure-function symbiosis of the heart. An unbiased, reference less grouping scheme that automatically determines the number of clusters and a physioanatomically relevant strategy that aligns the intra cluster LV shapes would enable the robust construction of pathology stratified cardiac atlas. This paper achieves this hitherto elusive stratification and alignment by adapting the conventional strategies routinely followed by clinicians.

We present a method for design and use of a digital mouse phantom for small animal optical imaging. We map the boundary of a mouse model from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data through image processing algorithms and discretize the geometry by a finite element (FE) descriptor. We use a validated FE implementation of the three-dimensional (3-D) diffusion equation to model transport of near infrared (NIR) light in the phantom with a mesh resolution optimized for representative tissue optical properties on a computing system with 8-GB RAM.

This paper proposes 2D active contour approach for segmenting thrombus volume from 3D CT images of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The major challenges in segmenting thrombus are in part because of lack of delineating contrast at anatomical boundaries due to overlap of other soft tissues and artifacts arising from stents and calcium deposits. In the present approach first the bone structures are removed from the image so that these nearby high intensity regions do not interfere in the segmentation process.
