Background: the geographical similarities of the Dutch 2007-2010 Q fever outbreak and the start of the 2020 coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) outbreak in the Netherlands raised questions and provided a unique opportunity to study an association between infection and the outcome following SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study in two Dutch hospitals. We assessed evidence of previous infection in COVID-19 patients diagnosed at the ED during the first COVID-19 wave and compared a combined outcome of in-hospital mortality and intensive care unit (ICU) admission using adjusted odds ratios (OR).

Infantile fibrosarcoma (IFS) and congenital mesoblastic nephroma (CMN) are locally aggressive tumors primarily occurring in infants. Both IFS and the cellular subtype of CMN show overlapping morphological features and an ETV6-NTRK3 fusion, suggesting a close relationship. An activating alteration of EGFR, based on an EGFR kinase domain duplication (KDD), occurs in a subset of CMNs lacking an NTRK3 rearrangement, especially in the classic and mixed type.

A guidance document for the identification of endocrine disruptors (EDs) in the regulatory assessment of plant protection products (PPP) and biocidal products (BP) has been published by the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The ECHA/EFSA guidance, mainly addressing EATS (estrogen, androgen, thyroid, steroidogenesis) modalities, is intended to guide applicants and assessors of the competent regulatory authorities on the implementation of the scientific criteria for the determination of ED properties pursuant to the recently implemented PPP (EU 2018/605) and BP (EU 2017/2100) EU Regulations. In this study, a search filter for targeted literature search in context of assessing if a substance can be identified as an ED relevant for human health was developed and validated.

The use of bisphenol A (BPA) is restricted due to its reproductive toxicity and endocrine disrupting (ED) properties. The public concern and regulatory restrictions on BPA stimulated the development of alternative substances to replace BPA. The aim of this study is to review the available data on carcinogenic, mutagenic, reproductive toxicity, and ED properties of BPA alternatives used in consumer products.

Experimental metastases are often located preferentially near the surfaces of liver and lungs. There are indications that some surface preference also exists in human metastasis. Since this phenomenon has thus far received little attention, we quantitatively analyzed the distribution of metastases in mouse liver and lungs, produced by intraportal or intravenous injection of B16 melanoma cells.
