The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) is a pentameric ligand-gated ion channel (pLGIC) commonly used as a model for receptors belonging to the Cys-loop superfamily. Members of pLGICs are standardly used in numerous toxicological investigations e.g.

This study investigated the course of DSM-5 mental disorders in cancer patients, stratified by SES, over a period of 1.5 years following initial cancer diagnosis.

However, once treatment has been completed, the consequences of the disease are often felt for a long time. These affect many different areas of life and often lead to a high level of suffering and need for care.

However, older patients are highly underrepresented in clinical research, leading to a detrimental knowledge gap. Research on important aspects of quality of life (QoL) and associated factors for older patients with cancer is insufficient to date.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: The extent of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) impairments in older hematological cancer survivors (HCS) has not been sufficiently studied. We therefore examined HRQOL in older HCS compared to a community sample (CS) and investigated sociodemographic, disease- and treatment-specific, geriatric, and psychosocial factors associated with reduced HRQOL.
Materials And Methods: In this cancer-register-based cross-sectional comparative study 200 HCS, aged ≥70 years, and 252 persons of an age- and gender-matched CS completed validated questionnaires including the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-ELD14.
Background: The purpose of this study was to provide the 4-week prevalence estimates of mental disorders in newly diagnosed cancer patients in relation to socioeconomic status (SES).
Patients And Methods: We enrolled newly diagnosed patients with a confirmed solid tumor within 2 months of diagnosis. We calculated patients' SES on the basis of their educational level, professional qualification, income and occupational status.
The number of patients living with or after cancer is constantly increasing due to improved diagnostics and care as well as the ageing society. This is particularly true for the group of older cancer survivors with complex health and supportive care needs. For many of those affected and their relatives, the disease and its treatment are accompanied by high levels of emotional stress, an impaired quality of life, and a variety of psychosocial challenges.

In lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), voiding and storage disorders may arise from benign prostate hyperplasia, or overactive bladder. While current therapeutic options target smooth muscle contraction or cell proliferation, side effects are mostly cardiovascular.

Objective: This study conducted a randomized controlled trial to investigate the efficacy of Mika, an app-based digital therapeutic designed to reduce distress across the cancer trajectory.
Purpose: Recognizing unmet care needs among cancer patients is crucial for improving a person-centered and tailored approach to survivorship care. This study aimed to explore the prevalence of unmet supportive care needs, pinpointing entity-specific areas of burden, and to identify factors associated with unmet needs within a diverse sample of cancer patients.
Methods: In this cross-sectional sub-study of a large multicenter study, 944 adult cancer patients reported supportive care needs via the well-validated SCNS.
Background: Hematological cancer patients must comply with extensive medical instructions to prevent cancer progression or relapse. Psychological comorbidities and patient characteristics have been shown to affect compliance. However, the impact of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and adjustment disorder (AjD) on compliance in cancer patients remains unclear.

Here, we performed an integrated analysis of the dynamics of virus replication and the host cell transcriptional response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection using human Caco-2 colon cancer cells as a model. Time-resolved RNA sequencing revealed that, upon infection, cells immediately transcriptionally activated genes associated with inflammatory pathways that mediate the antiviral response, which was followed by an increase in the expression of genes involved in ribosome and mitochondria function, thus suggesting rapid alterations in protein production and cellular energy supply.

A newly developed deep learning (DL)-based automated assessment of the SL distance on radiographs may support clinicians in initial image interpretation.
Materials And Methods: A pre-trained DL algorithm was specifically fine-tuned on static and dynamic dorsopalmar wrist radiography (training data set n = 201) for the automated assessment of the SL distance.
Objective: The rather broad definition of medical trauma within DSM-IV has contributed to long-lasting debates on the applicability of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in oncological patients and its differentiation from Adjustment Disorder (AjD) which results from non-traumatic critical life events. The DSM-5 criteria have introduced a narrower definition of medical traumatization. However, studies on updated prevalence rates in cancer patients are missing.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare MRI-based torsion measurements of the lower limb to a well-established CT-based assessment in a prospective inter- and intraindividual approach.
Methods: A total of 26 patients (age 28.8 years ± 11.
Background: Symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and adjustment disorder (AjD) are common in hematological cancer patients as they face severe stressors during their serious disease and often intensive treatment, such as stem cell transplantation (SCT). Aims of the present study were to provide frequency and risk factors for PTSD and AjD based on updated diagnostic criteria that are lacking to date.
Material And Methods: In a cross-sectional study, hematological cancer patients were assessed for stressor-related symptoms via validated self-report questionnaires based on updated criteria for PTSD (PCL-5) and AjD (ADMN-20).
Introduction: In open-wedge high-tibial-osteotomy (OWHTO), most surgeons use a preoperative planning software and realise that they should match the intraoperative alignment correction with the preoperative plan. We aimed to determine whether there is a difference in osteotomy gap height when starting the OWHTO either 3 or 4 cm distal to the joint line. This should help to clarify whether the osteotomy starting point must exactly match the preoperative planning.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of CT in detecting dislocated bucket handle meniscal tears compared with the gold-standard MRI and arthroscopy.

While image-based techniques, claim an increase in saturated fatty acids responsible for this effect, this study shows an increase in both saturated and unsaturated fatty acids in the bone marrow. Using fatty acid methyl ester gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, characteristic fatty acid patterns for patients with normal BMD (N = 9), osteopenia (N = 12), and osteoporosis (N = 9) have been identified, which differ between plasma, red bone marrow and yellow bone marrow.

Material And Methods: Between October 2020 and July 2021 forty-seven patients were enrolled in this study for an intraindividual comparison of a standard TSE study protocol and a DL TSE study protocol either on a 1.
Objectives: Patients who need torsion measurement of the lower limb often have metal implants hindering . MRI. A new ultra-low-dose (ULD-)CT protocol might be feasible for torsion measurement at cost of relatively low radiation exposure.

It is however unclear whether distress screeners are suitable for psychosocial care planning and thus whether they can predict the willingness that is need, intention, and utilization, to seek psychosocial support.
Methods: In a secondary analysis of a cluster intervention study, we assessed cancer patients with three distress screeners (DT, PHQ-9, GAD-7) at baseline.
