Introduction: Despite international commitment to achieving the end of HIV as a public health threat, progress is off-track and existing gaps have been exacerbated by COVID-19's collision with existing pandemics. A series of 2,3-dihalo-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobutanes and 2-halo-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-enes were prepared from commercially available hydrofluoroolefins 1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-enes and their H, F and C chemical shifts measured. Some reactions of synthesized 2-halo-1,1,1,4,4,4-hexafluorobut-2-enes have been investigated. A simple, one-pot procedure for the preparation of a new allene (1,1,4,4,4-pentafluorobuta-1,2-diene) and some of its transformations is presented.

Excess nutrients transported by the Mississippi River (MR) contribute to hypoxia in the Gulf of Mexico. Nutrient balances are key drivers to river nutrient loads and represent inputs (fertilizer, manure, deposition, wastewater, N-fixation, and weathering) minus outputs (nutrient uptake and removal in harvest, and N emissions). Here, we quantified annual changes in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) river loads and nutrient balances at the MR Outlet and documented that the river load response to watershed nutrient balances shifted between 1975 and 2017.

When, how, and why students use conceptual knowledge during math problem solving is not well understood. We propose that when solving routine problems, students are more likely to recruit conceptual knowledge if their procedural knowledge is weak than if it is strong, and that in this context, metacognitive processes, specifically feelings of doubt, mediate interactions between procedural and conceptual knowledge. To test these hypotheses, in two studies (Ns = 64 and 138), university students solved fraction and decimal arithmetic problems while thinking aloud; verbal protocols and written work were coded for overt uses of conceptual knowledge and displays of doubt.
