[Enterobius vermicularis enteroparasite role in appendicitis cecal: Enterobiasis and appendicitis].

Sixty-five cases of enterobiasis of the cecal appendix are reported by Enterobius vermicularis or Oxiurus vermicularis. Enterobiasis is a cosmopolitan parasite5,8,13 and frequent. It is useful to establish whether it can cause appendicitis and the mechanisms involved.

[Hight resoluton optical microscopy of the cellular cycle in psoriasis patients].

Skin tissue from patients with Psoriasis was analyzed using HROM (High Resolution Optical Microscopy), studying epithelial differentiation and possible structural alterations of the queratinocytes. The samples were taken from 10 patients with histopathologic diagnosis of Psoriasis. This tissue samples where affixed with glutaraldehide buffer-collidine for 48 hours.

[Gastrointestinal stromal tumors: conceptual evolution].

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) constitute the largest category of primary nonepithelial neoplasms of the stomach and small bowel. They represent about 1-2% from all neoplasms of the digestive tract. They occur most commonly in the stomach and small bowel, but small series of comparable tumors have also been reported in all the other parts of the tubular gastrointestinal tract, including esophagus, colon, rectum and anus.

Photobiomodulation of pain and inflammation in microcrystalline arthropathies: experimental and clinical results.

Objective: This article presents the results of laser therapy in crystal (hydroxyapatite, calcium pyrophosphate, and urates) deposition-induced arthritis in rats and the clinical applications in humans.

Background Data: Microcrystalline arthropathies are prevalent among geriatric patients, who are more vulnerable to the side effects of drugs. The effectiveness of laser therapy for pain relief, free of side effects, has been reported in painful conditions.

[Brown tumor in hyperparathyroidism secondary to chronic renal failure].

Brown tumor (BT) is an uncommon condition that represents the terminal stage of the cystic osteitis fibrosa and have been increasingly reported in hyperparathyroidism secondary to renal failure, due to the increase of survival in patient with hemodialysis. The fine needle aspiration diagnosis is of great importance in the recognition of the BT, although it can be difficult to distinguish it of lesions as the aneurysmal bone cyst and giant-cell tumor. We describe the case of 20-year-old female with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis during six years.

Structure and secretory activity of cultured chondrocytes from patients with osteoarthritis.

Cartilage samples were taken from OA patients in order to describe and quantify pro-inflammatory mediators. Samples were cultured under aseptic conditions in Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium at 37 degrees C for 10 days. Control samples, taken from non-inflammatory cartilage, were cultured under the same conditions.

Simvastatin: pharmacological response in experimental hyperfibrinogenaemias.

Unlabelled: Through a disorder in the endothelial haemostatic balance, hyperfibrinogenaemia could generate endothelial dysfunction. Statins would have antiinflammatory effects on injured endothelium.

[Abdominal wall endometriosis: case report].

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial glands and stroma outside uterus. This ectopic finding occur in the abdominal wall among 0,03% to 1% of women with prior gynecologic surgery, particularly after cesarean section. Most frequently, endometriosis is present as a palpable mass, painfull during menstrual period, near surgical scar.

Ultrastructural localization of thyroid peroxidase, hydrogen peroxide-generating sites, and monoamine oxidase in benign and malignant thyroid diseases.

Despite thyroid tissue heterogeneity, biochemical and morphological features have been associated with certain thyroid diseases. We analyzed the ultracytochemical localization of thyroperoxidase (TPO), TPO-associated hydrogen peroxide-generating sites (H(2)O(2) sites), and monoamine oxidase (MAO) in terms of morphology and biochemical TPO activity in abnormal thyroids. We examined 11 cases of nontoxic multinodular goiter, 5 cases of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, 1 case of oncocytic (Hürthle or oxyphilic cell) adenoma, 5 cases of Graves' disease, 4 cases of papillary carcinoma, and 4 cases of perinodular normal tissue.

[Thin layer preparations in thyroid fine-needle aspiration: study of 200 cases].

Introduction: Trying to increase the specificity and demonstrated sensibility of thyroid fine needle aspiration (TFNA) in the diagnosis of the thyroid nodule, and to improve the cytomorphologic diagnosis, we used the approach of realization of thin prep (TP), adapting the technique to the methods within our possibilities.

Materials And Methods: The sample corresponded to a prospective study of 200 cases of material of thyroid nodules, obtained by means of ultrasonography guide fine needle aspiration, over a 30 month period. The study was carried out by means of conventional smear (CS) and TP, cytologic preparations were stained with hematoxilin-eosine (H-E), Papanicolaou (PAP) and Tint 15.

The occurrence of ectopic decidua has been observed most often in the ovaries, uterus, and cervix. A peritoneal localization is less frequent and usually an asymptomatic incidental finding. Ectopic decidua was investigated in biopsies taken during cesarean sections, elective tubal ligations, appendectomy and in tubal pregnancies.

He-Ne laser on microcrystalline arthropathies.

Objective: The objective of this work is to assess the anti-inflammatory capacity of He-Ne laser therapy as determined by the plasmatic levels of inflammatory markers, fibrinogen, and TNFalpha and by histopathological study in rats with arthropathy induced by calcium pyrophosphate crystals.

Background Data: Microcrystalline arthropathies are a group of diseases characterized by the deposit of different crystals in joints.

Materials And Methods: Two milligrams of dicalcium pyrophosphate crystals (DCPP) were injected in both joints of the lower limbs of rats during 2 days.

Hyperfibrinogenemia in rats treated with meloxicam.

Fibrinogen secretion is mediated by prostaglandin biosynthesis and is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Since meloxicam produces inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis it may help to normalize hyperfibrinogenemia. We investigated the pharmacological effect of meloxicam on fibrinogen levels and the possible regression of histopathological lesions of thoracic aorta.

[Heterotopic mesenteric ossification. Description of a case].

We describe a case of heterotopic mesenteric ossification presented in a 25 year-old male who underwent laparotomy for a fire-gun injury. Two weeks later he experienced small bowel obstruction and for this reason he has been operated five times with removal of segments of small bowel. Now, nine months later, he needs ileostomy to avoid another obstruction.

Fibromatosis mimicking clinically invasive breast carcinoma.

Our purpose is to report two cases of fibromatosis in two women of 34 and 48 years old respectively that clinically appeared as a invasive breast carcinoma, particularly for the cutaneous retraction they showed. The histopathological diagnosis was done based on specimens studied with the common technique of paraffin embedding and Hematoxilin & Eosin staining. Both patients had firm poorly demarcated nodules with the histopathological pattern of classic fibromatosis.

[Severe acute pancreatitis. Clinical and therapeutic contribution of diagnostic imaging].

Ultrasonography and dynamic tomography are used in the study of acute pancreatitis, thus helping to interpret the diverse anatomophysiopathologic variables. We present 41 patients studied by ultrasonography, on admission and twenty-four hours later or more. After seventy-two hours, a dynamic tomography was performed.

Localised primary amyloidosis of inguinal lymph node with superimposed bone metaplasia.

We present here a case of localised primary amyloidosis of the right inguinal lymph node in a 42 year old female. On gross examination the specimen was 4.0 x 4.

[Latent carcinoma of the thyroid in surgical samples].

We present 23 cases of latent thyroid carcinoma which were examined in 356 surgical specimens (incidence: 6.4%), having found a sclerosing variant predominance. Of the total cases that were under study, twenty of them belonged to women (86%), and three to men (14%).

[Microcystic serous cystadenoma of pancreas. Clinicopathological and surgical features].

The microcystic serous cystadenoma of pancreas or glycogen "rich" cystadenoma is a rare entity. We studied five case of this cystadenoma in adult patients ages 47-68 (58 was the mean), four of which were women (80%). The clinical presentation was varied.

A case of eosinophilic polypoid cystitis with flat carcinoma in situ of the overlying epithelium is described. This is the first case with such an association encountered in our series comprised of 26 bladder surgical specimens and represents an incidence rate of 0.38%.

[Autoimmune granulomatous orchitis: its incidence in surgical specimens].

We report on three patients (28, 55 and 87 years old) with autoimmune granulomatous orchitis (AGO). Of a total of 182 surgical specimens examined, AGO accounted 1.64%.

[Parafunicular hemangiopericytoma].

We report a case of right-sided parafunicular hemangiopericytoma in a 72-year-old patient with unilateral cryptorchidism. We describe the outstanding histologic features of this uncommon tumor which permit making a differential diagnosis from other neoplasms.
