Effectiveness of methotrexate and leflunomide as corticoid-sparing drugs in patients with polymyalgia rheumatica.

Objectives: The need for glucocorticoid-sparing drugs (GCSD) remains an important issue and is an unmet need in the treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). We therefore aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of methotrexate (MTX) and of leflunomide (LEF) in daily clinical practice in PMR patients from Argentina.

Methods: A multicentre and observational study (medical records review) of PMR patients seen between 2007 and 2023, who had at least three months of follow-up after starting a GCSD, either MTX or LEF, was performed.

Risk Factors for Relapse and/or Prolonged Glucocorticoid Therapy in Polymyalgia Rheumatica: Multicenter Study in 185 Patients.

Background: In polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) relapses and long-term GC dependency are common. We assessed risk factors for higher relapse rate and/or prolonged glucocorticoid therapy in PMR patients.

[South-South cooperation to strengthen the medicines control laboratories of the Caribbean community (CARICOM)].

Objective To describe the benefits obtained through South-South and triangular cooperation as a potential tool for strengthening medicine quality control in official medicines control laboratories (OMCLs) of the Region of the Americas. Methods Descriptive study of the project for strengthening drug quality control in OMCLs of the Caribbean community (CARICOM). Results Staff members of Argentina's National Administration for Drugs, Food, and Medical Technology (ANMAT) provided training to professionals from Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Invasive fungal infections in Argentine patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Introduction: Infections are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Invasive fungal infections (IFI) comprise a group of diseases caused by Cryptococcus, Histoplasma, Aspergillus and Candida. Few studies of IFI have been published in patients with SLE and associated factors have not been completely defined.

Transepithelial transport of biperiden hydrochloride in Caco-2 cell monolayers.

The aim of this research has been to determine the biperiden hydrochloride permeability in Caco-2 model, in order to classify it based on the Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS). The World Health Organization (WHO) as well as many other authors have provisionally assigned the drug as BCS class I (high solubility-high permeability) or III (high solubility-low permeability), based on different methods. We determined biperiden BCS class by comparing its permeability to 5 pre-defined compounds: atenolol and ranitidine hydrochloride (low permeability group) and metoprolol tartrate, sodium naproxen and theophylline (high permeability group).

[Cognitive behavioural therapy of overvalued ideas in patients suffering of obsessive-compulsive disorder].

In this paper we examined the overvalued ideas in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), because they are considered an impediment to progress in the treatment, particularly for exposure and response prevention interventions (ERP). Maladaptive cognitions in OCD, involving excessive responsibility, over-importance of thoughts, need to control thoughts, overestimation of threat, perfectionism and intolerance for uncertainty is the core of illness. Cognitive change via disputing and education are also the key to symptom remission.

[Relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, and personal history in a postraumatic unit (descriptive study)].

In examining predictors of Posttraumatic Stress Disorders, researchers have focused on trauma intensity, symptoms severity, personality disorders and devoted less attention to other variables. This descriptive study examine how personality disorders, intensity of trauma and demographic variables (previous trauma and vulnerability) are related to the likelihood of experiencing a trauma, and to the severity of posttraumatic symptoms in a sample of 50 patients reporting a wide range of trauma.

[Malingering in the clinical setting].

This article presents an overview of advances in the clinical and neuropsychological assessment of malingering, issues in diagnostic differential, neuropsychological and psychodynamic test methods, and special issues presented by medical - legal context, and other factors which may affect presentations. Cautions and recommendations for practice are presented.

[Memory and cognitivism].

The goal of this article is to explore the notion of cognitive memory. For that reason we would study the implicit and explicit memory. We would also study the notion of childhood amnesia and trauma.

Search for related substances in market products containing enalapril maleate as the active principle.

This study's main object was the determination of substances, by means of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), that are related to enalapril maleate in medicinal tablets. The research was on products containing a 20 mg active principle with a 12-month delta t and on those batches near their expiration date with an enalapril maleate concentration of 10, 5, and 2.5 mg.

Stability of pilocarpine ophthalmic solutions.

The stability of pilocarpine and pilocarpine-timolol eyedrop preparations available on the Argentine market was studied. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method that allows the estimation of pilocarpine in the presence of degradation products was used for the study according to the preestablished design. It was found that pilocarpine solutions are stable, while pilocarpine in association with timolol shows significant degradation.
