The safety and efficacy of a thiazide/potassium-sparing diuretic and an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor used concomitantly was evaluated in a large, multicenter study. Aldactazine was administered alone for 2 months, after which time captopril was added in those whose blood pressure had not normalized (332 patients). At the end of the 6-month study, control of blood pressure was achieved in 88% of the patients with one or the other regimen.

Plasma norepinephrine concentrations after supine rest and after standing were measured by high-pressure liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection in 49 normotensive controls and in 79 patients with essential hypertension. Twenty-nine hypertensive patients were not treated for hypertension. In normotensive subjects--but not in hypertensive patients--supine plasma norepinephrine levels increased significantly with age.

To analyze the prognostic significance of renal involvement, data from 24 cases of necrotizing angeitis, with renal involvement in 16, is studied. Associated disorders are described. Patients are divided into four groups: acute renal failure, progressive renal failure, renal involvement with normal renal function, and no renal involvement.

The authors report their experience with glomerular lesions after renal transplantation, but exclude recurrent glomerulonephritis. Fourteen cases (3 membranous glomerulopathies and eleven allograft glomerulopathies) are discussed in relation to 98 recipients of 105 renal allografts. Two patients with membranous glomerulopathy had HBs antigen in their serum.
