Patellofemoral instability is a prevalent cause of pain and disability in young individuals engaged in athletic activities. Adolescents face a particularly notable risk of patellar dislocation, which can be attributed to rapid skeletal growth, changes in q-angle, ligamentous laxity, higher activity levels, and increased exposure to risk. Specific sports activities carry an elevated risk of patellar dislocation.

The purpose of this study was to determine the 10-year outcome of this technique by analyzing the clinical long-term effects and radiological status of the knee after leg lengthening via a retrograde femoral approach.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective single-center study included 13 patients (median age at surgery 17 [range 15-20] years) who underwent unilateral, retrograde, femoral lengthening with a motorized nail.
Introduction: Hip reconstruction is an established procedure in pediatric patients with neurogenic hip dislocation. An open triradiate cartilage provides the advantage of a high plasticity of the bone which prevents an intraarticular fracture and postoperative adaptation of shape. Some patients with dislocated hips, however, arrive late.

In 56 patients (96 SMOs), K-wires were used to stabilize SMOs (WF group), while 21 patients (28 SMOs) were treated with locking compression plates (LCPs; PF group).

Background: Solitary trochleoplasty for recurrent patellar dislocation offers a unique benefit in that it addresses the most important factor in patellar instability: the trochlear dysplasia.
Description: The trochlea is visualized through a lateral arthrotomy of the knee joint. An osteochondral layer is peeled off with curved chisels and extended into the intercondylar notch.
Using Tibialis Anterior Shortening (TATS) in combination with Achilles Tendon Lengthening (TAL) to treat spastic equinus in children with cerebral palsy (CP) was described in 2011. Short-term results have indicated a good outcome, especially an improvement of the drop foot in swing phase and the correction of equinus in stance phase. The aim of this study was to analyse the results of the long-term follow-up and to determine the relapse rate of TATS and TAL.

Thirty patients with a median leg-length discrepancy of 3.0 cm underwent femoral limb lengthening with an intramedullary motorized device.

Several male-sterile, female-sterile mutants have been identified and studied in soybean, however, some of these mutants have not been mapped to locations on soybean chromosomes. The objectives of this study were to molecularly map five male-sterile, female-sterile genes (st2, st4, st5, st6, and st7) in soybean and compare the map locations of these genes with already mapped sterility genes.

Eleven male-sterile, female-fertile mutants (ms1, ms2, ms3, ms4, ms5, ms6, ms7, ms8, ms9, msMOS, and msp) have been identified in soybean. Of these, eight (ms2, ms3, ms5, ms7, ms8, ms9, msMOS, and msp) have been mapped to soybean chromosomes.

Originally described as an (isolated) injury of the overhead athlete, it was only recently that the association of SLAP and rotator cuff defects was described in up to 40 % of cases. This study addresses the question of the evidence-based treatment of such frequent, combined lesions.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 13 SS cases in patients younger than 20 years at the time of diagnosis who had a minimum follow-up of 10 years.
Background And Purpose: In the last decade, intramedullary limb lengthening has become a viable alternative to traditional external systems. We retrospectively analyzed the use of an intramedullary motorized nail (Fitbone) in a consecutive series of 32 patients.
Patients And Methods: During the period September 2006 to December 2008, 32 consecutive patients with a median age of 17 (IQR: 15-19) years were treated with a fully implantable, motorized intramedullary lengthening device (Fitbone).
Background: Synovial sarcoma (SS) is a malignant soft tissue sarcoma with a poor prognosis because of late local recurrence and distant metastases. To our knowledge, no studies have minimum follow-up of 10 years that evaluate long-term outcomes for survivors.
Patients And Methods: Data on 62 patients who had been treated for SS from 1968 to 1999 were studied retrospectively in a multicenter study.
Plant respiration is characterized by two pathways for electron transfer to O(2), namely the cytochrome pathway (CP) that is linked to ATP production, and the alternative pathway (AP), where electrons from ubiquinol are directly transferred to O(2) via an alternative oxidase (AOX) without concomitant ATP production. This latter pathway is well suited to dispose of excess electrons in the light, leading to optimized photosynthetic performance. We have characterized T-DNA-insertion mutant lines of Arabidopsis thaliana that do not express the major isoform, AOX1A.

Polyethylene wear of acetabular components is a key factor in the development of periprosthetic osteolysis and wear at the articular surface has been well documented and quantified, but fewer data are available about changes which occur at the backside of the liner. At revision surgery for loosening of the femoral component we retrieved 35 conventional modular acetabular liners of the same design. Linear and volumetric articular wear, backside volumetric change and the volume of the screw-head indentations were quantified.

We review the treatment of pelvic Ewing's sarcoma by the implantation of extracorporeally-irradiated (ECI) autografts and compare the outcome with that of other reported methods. We treated 13 patients with ECI autografts between 1994 and 2004. There were seven males and six females with a median age of 15.

Unlabelled: Leg lengthening by external fixation is associated with various difficulties. We evaluated eight adolescent patients who underwent leg lengthening with a motorized intramedullary lengthening device. We asked whether this method could reduce the time of hospitalization and rehabilitation and whether the incidence of complications commonly associated with external fixators could be reduced.

Management of minimally displaced femoral neck fractures in paediatric patients with autosomal dominant osteopetrosis (ADO) remains unclear as only small numbers have been reported. There are no detailed reports on successful conservative treatment. Common causes of failure in this particular area include non-union and development of coxa vara.
