Methods: Adolescents (average age 13.7 years) who had lost one or both parents to AIDS from 15 comparable schools were randomly assigned to either an experimental (n=135) or a control condition (n=142).
Objectives: We examined the effect of economic assets on sexual risk-taking intentions among school-going AIDS-orphaned adolescents in rural Uganda.
Methods: AIDS-orphaned adolescents from 15 comparable schools were randomly assigned to control (n = 133) or treatment (n = 127) conditions. Treatment participants received child savings accounts, workshops, and mentorship.
In recent years, calls for the scaling-up, or more broad dissemination of evidence-based HIV prevention programmes, have increased. This paper responds to the call for increasing applicable knowledge about programme dissemination by reviewing the history of a major evidence-based human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention and mental health promotion programme that has been adapted successfully and pilot-tested across four settings - including two major cities, as well as in the United States, Trinidad and Tobago and South Africa - to date. This programme, entitled CHAMP (the Collaborative HIV Prevention & Adolescent Mental Health Project), is distinctive primarily for its emphasis on community collaboration and power-sharing, and also its incorporation of individual, family and community-level interventions.

One of these, Wa x UK, contained a single human rotavirus gene from the Wa strain that encoded VP4 P1A specificity in a background of 10 bovine genes including the VP7 gene that encodes G6 specificity, whereas the other, Wa x (DS-1 x UK), possessed the human rotavirus VP4 gene from the Wa strain as well as the human VP7 gene from strain DS-1 that encoded G2 specificity. Each of these vaccines appeared to be well-tolerated and immunogenic in infants less than 6 months of age following a single oral dose, and therefore should be evaluated further as vaccine candidates.
