The serum levels of cortisol and glycosaminoglycans (GAG) were studied in patients with uveitis in rheumatic diseases (RD). Among the patients with this pathology, there was a more preponderance of persons with low cortisol levels. In acute uvitis in the presence of RD, the mean serum content of this hormone was significantly lower than that in infectious and idiopathic uveitis.

The influence of polyunsaturated fatty acids of mare 's milk fat on the cellular composition of the peripheral blood was investigated in male rats after a prolonged period of feeding. Animals were fed with isocaloric purified diet, part fats which on 30% (on caloricity) of fat marers milk (in experements group), in control groups - combination of lard and sunflower oil in which the ratio of fatty acids omega-6/omega-3 was equal to 0,76. At the end of the 6-th week of feeding (on the 6-th day after a single immunization with a 5% sheep erythrocyte suspension) the immunized animals have demonstrated leucocytosis that was marked by a considerable rise in the level of neutrophils and lymphocytes and a twofold increase of monocyte number.

The investigation determined whether there was a relationship of thyroid diseases with the geology of the place of residence and its associated spectrum of trace elements (iron, chromium, selenium, manganese, cobalt, copper, nickel, arsenic, and zinc). The geologo-geomorphological factors of the habitat, such as geological formations (mineral composition, structure, the degree of rock metamorphism), tectonics, the history of geological development, relief, paleorelief, were found to be of considerable importance in the formation of the human trace element status. Both deficiency and excess of trace elements was shown to be of pathogenetic value in the development of thyroid diseases.

Pumala virus recombinant nucleocapsid protein was used for the early diagnosis of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Specific IgM in the sera of patients could be determined by the IEA technique as early as on days 2-3 from the onset of the disease. The diagnostic effectiveness of the test-system was 95% and its specificity was 98%.

Nonspecific and specific immunity values were studied in 70 children before and in various periods after 74 operations on the anterior segment of the eyeball. In children with persistent autosensitization to ocular tissue autoantigens (alpha-crystalline and S-antigen) postoperative uveitis presented as an immunocomplex disease with signs of exhaustion of the functional potential of the phagocytosis and complement systems. In children without autosensitization uveitis was associated with immunity activation.

The influence of essential fatty acids of mare's milk fat on the immunocompetent system and nonspecific resistance of male rats weighing 135-145 g was investigated after 6 weeks of feeding. Rats were fed with isocaloric purified diets containing 15% of test fat (in control--combination of lard and sunflower oil) which provide the ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids equal to 0.76.

169 skulls were examined in adults and 58 in children to study variability of parameters and shape of anterior trabecular (sphenoethmoidal) and posterior parachordal (auriculo-occipital) regions of human skull, the border between which is drawn through openings of trigeminal nerve branches. Spatial coordinates of these foramina and anterior and posterior points of trabecular and parachordal regions were obtained using stereocraniobasiometer. The maps of all the regions were plotted.

The effect of pyrimidine, levamizol, and prodigiozan on the retarded hypersensitivity (RH) was studied on a model of adoptive transfer of the splenocytes from donors of different ages to young syngeneic recipients. Splenocytes from CBA and BALB/c suckers, receiving pyrimidine, activate the RH suppression. Levamizol and prodigiozan exert the same effect on BALB/c mice and inhibit the RH suppression in CBA mice.

General carotid arteries were studied in 51 corpses of foetuses and newborns with gestational ages ranging from 28 to 40 weeks. The entire material was divided into 3 groups: 1) 28-32 weeks, 2) 33-36 weeks, 3) 37-40 weeks. The length of the cervical region as well as external diameter of the artery, thickness of the wall and its certain layers, number of elastic membrane rows and connective tissue fibres architectonics were studied.

The authors examined 414 brain preparations of males and females to study the correlation of the size of the circulus arteriosus cerebri (CAC) with the brain mass (BM) and the size of the skull, and the correlation between the area of the cross-section of the lumen (CSL) of arteries contributing to the formation of the circulus arteriosus, as well as that of the vertebral and basilar arteries with the BM. The age-specific changes of the diameters of the cerebral arteries and the variability of their parameters in CAC anomalies were studied. The CAS cross-section is larger in males than in females.

Hematoencephalic barrier (HEB) permeability was studied in 78 rabbits. HEB permeability for 32P was examined in animals with phlegmons on the posterior paws and on the maxillofacial area; HEB permeability was sharply increased in the latter group animals. Central cholinolytics and antioxidants were used to normalize this parameter in the rabbits with maxillofacial phlegmons.

The authors discuss the effect of immunological shifts in 102 children with hyperthyroidism goiter on the outcomes of surgical treatment. Deviations in the immune status of children suffering from this disease were found to have an unfavourable effect on the outcome of surgical treatment. Recurrences were more frequent and postoperative hypothyroidism developed.

Using the material of 222 skulls from the craniological collection, correlative connections between dimensions and form of the skull base and fornix have been investigated. In accordance with the value of the wide-long parameter of the base, three forms of the skull are determined: dolichobasilar, mesobasilar and brachibasilar.

In 130 cerebral preparations of children and mature persons external structure and dimensions of the temporal operculum, pertaining to the posterior speech cerebral area, have been studied. A great variability in the operculum form, in the number of tertial sulci situating on it, in its linear dimensions and superficial area has been stated. Final dimensions of the temporal operculum are formed in early childhood and have no sex differences.
