A Predictive Model for Graves' Disease Recurrence After Antithyroid Drug Therapy: A Retrospective Multicenter Cohort Study.

Objectives: Predicting recurrence after antithyroid drug (ATD) cessation is crucial for optimal treatment decision-making in patients with Graves' disease (GD). We aimed to identify factors associated with GD recurrence and to develop a model using routine pretherapeutic clinical parameters to predict GD recurrence risk during the first year following ATD discontinuation.

Methods: This electronic health records-based observational cohort study analyzed patients with GD treated with ATDs at 3 U.

Peer-assisted telemedicine for hepatitis C in people who use drugs: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) elimination requires treating people who use drugs (PWUD), yet fewer than 10% of PWUD in the United States access HCV treatment and access is especially limited in rural communities.

Methods: We randomized PWUD with HCV viremia and past 90-day injection drug or non-prescribed opioid use in seven rural Oregon counties to peer-assisted telemedicine HCV treatment (TeleHCV) versus peer-assisted referral to local providers (enhanced usual care; EUC). Peers supported screening and pre-treatment laboratory evaluation for all participants and facilitated telemedicine visits, medication delivery, and adherence for TeleHCV participants.

Treatment outcomes among patients with isoniazid mono-resistant tuberculosis in Mumbai, India: A retrospective cohort study.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant cause of mortality globally, with India accounting for 27% of the estimated number of people with TB. Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) and isoniazid (INH) resistance pose additional challenges to effective treatment. We aimed to describe treatment outcomes of INH mono-resistant TB patients under programmatic conditions in Mumbai, India.

We examined changes in injection drug use and injection equipment sharing following HCV treatment in a randomized trial comparing peer-assisted telemedicine for HCV treatment (TeleHCV) versus peer-assisted usual care in rural PWUD. We hypothesize that TeleHCV reduces risky behaviors and peers facilitate this change.

A longitudinal study on the relation between parenting and Toddler's disruptive behavior: what is the role of Toddler's negative emotionality and physiological stress reactivity?

Harsh and unsupportive parenting is a risk factor for the development of disruptive behavior in children. However, little is known about how children's temperament and stress reactivity influence this relation. In a three-wave longitudinal study, we examined whether the associations between parenting practices (supportive parenting, positive discipline, and harsh discipline) and child disruptive behavior were mediated by child temperament (negative emotionality) and stress reactivity (heart rate reactivity).

Four-dimensional computed tomography and ultrasonography for prediction of pathological parathyroid location: a retrospective review of a single surgeon's patients at a single institution.

Background: Pre-operative imaging is a well-established practice for managing hyperparathyroidism with the plan for excision; however, there is a paucity of information regarding the success rate of concordant imaging studies. Our goal was to compare the accuracy (sensitivity) of four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) and ultrasound (US) when predicting the side and quadrant of parathyroid lesions, confirmed with surgical location (from a single surgeon).

Although allelic variation is ubiquitous in natural populations, our theoretical models are poor at predicting the existence and properties of these observed polymorphisms. In this study, inspired by Van Valen's Red Queen hypothesis, we modeled the effect of viability selection in a deteriorating environment on the properties of allelic variation in populations subject to recurrent mutation. In summer 2022, a case of mpox was confirmed in a resident at the Cook County Jail (CCJ) in Chicago, Illinois, USA. We conducted in-depth interviews with CCJ residents and staff to assess mpox knowledge, attitudes, and practices; hygiene and cleaning practices; and risk behaviors. We characterized findings by using health belief model constructs.

Directing the migration of serum-free, -expanded Vγ9Vδ2 T cells.

Vγ9Vδ2 T cells represent a promising cancer therapy platform because the implementation of allogenic, off-the-shelf product candidates is possible. However, intravenous administration of human Vγ9Vδ2 T cells manufactured under good manufacturing practice (GMP)-compliant, serum-free conditions are not tested easily in most mouse models, mainly because they lack the ability to migrate from the blood to tissues or tumors. We demonstrate that these T cells do not migrate from the circulation to the mouse bone marrow (BM), the site of many malignancies.

Background: Safety signal learning (SSL), based on conditioned inhibition of fear in the presence of learned safety, can effectively attenuate threat responses in animal models and humans. Difficulty regulating threat responses is a core feature of anxiety disorders, suggesting that SSL may provide a novel mechanism for fear reduction. Cross-species evidence suggests that SSL involves functional connectivity between the anterior hippocampus and the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex.
