Introduction: Bilateral vocal cord immobility (BVCI) is a leading cause of stridor and airway obstruction in neonates which may arise idiopathically, as a result of birth trauma, or in the setting of Central nervous system lesions such as Arnold-Chiari malformation. Although many children with BVCI may be managed conservatively, surgical intervention may be necessary in those patients with ongoing upper airway obstruction. Many interventions have been described including, tracheostomy, cordotomy, cricoid splitting procedures, and arytenoidectomy.

Quality of life outcomes in cochlear implantation of children with profound and multiple learning disability.

This study was performed to investigate the effect of cochlear implantation on the Quality of Life (QoL) of children with profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD). This cohort of children has been viewed historically as poor candidates for cochlear implantation as they generally have poor speech and hearing outcomes. The Irish National Cochlear Implant Program's prospectively maintained database was examined for all children implanted from July 1996 to July 2015.

The use of a camera-enabled mobile phone to triage patients with nasal bone injuries.

Enzymatic characterization of a human acyltransferase activity.

Background: Non-histone protein acylation is increasingly recognized as an important posttranslational modification, but little is known as to the biochemical properties of protein serine acylating enzymes.

Methodology/principal Findings: We here report that we have identified a metal-stimulated serine octanoyltransferase activity in microsomes from human erythroleukemic (HEL) cells. The HEL acylating enzyme was linear with respect to time and protein, exhibited a neutral pH optimum (stimulated by cobalt and zinc), and inhibited by chelating reagents.

Assessment of condom use among Bolivian truck drivers through the lens of social cognitive theory.

This study demonstrates that Bolivian long distance truck drivers are a high risk population of HIV infection and transmission, supporting other global studies involving truck drivers and their high risk. The aims of this investigation were to estimate the prevalence of high risk behaviors and to identify predictors of condom use in this population. Analysis was completed on survey results from 246 male truckers (aged 18-67).
