The effect of exposure of soft wheat buns to Ultraviolet-C radiation (UV-C, 253.7 nm) was studied as an alternative to conventional treatments to control fungal spoilage and prolong shelf life. To identify the most suitable operating conditions, the study included preliminary tests on the permeability of films to UV-C irradiation, and on treatment antifungal efficacy on target microorganisms ( and ) in Petri dishes.

Patient Concerns: A 62-year-old patient came to our attention for an intense facial pain secondary to a lesion of the right trigeminal nerve (all branches) due to a petroclival meningioma.
Diagnoses: The patient also presented with gait impairment as well as a deficit of the right facial, auditory, trochlear and abducens cranial nerves.
A statistical analysis of the corona-virus (Covid-19) infective process has been performed by a cooperative action during the period February-June 2020. A good analysis has been obtained by using an entropic model typical of phenomena where statistical entropy-negaentropy balance is expected to play a major role. A saturation value of the infected humans was observed, and the number of people potentially (asymptomatic) involved in the process was determined with an accuracy of 15% in the Italian case, as relevant example.

We present the case of a 36-year-old male patient with MELAS (mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes) who developed intraventricular conduction disturbances and syncopal episodes due to a paroxysmal atrioventricular block. This case suggests that in MELAS, as well as in other mithochondriopathies, intraventricular conduction disturbances and atrioventricular block can be features of the disease. In our case, progression toward atrioventricular block was rapid, suggesting that in MELAS patients presenting with worsening conduction system anomalies, pacemaker implantation has to be considered without delay, irrespective of age.

Glues no longer contain large concentrations of this solvent, and in some cases, it as been completely replaced by other hydrocarbons. The authors investigated the health status in a group of shoemakers using glues containing 35% technical heptane.

Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a genetic disorder of amino acid metabolism that is associated with brain catecholamine depletion and deficient myelination. Although neuropsychological deficits have been documented in children with early-treated PKU (ETPKU), no study to date has examined possible effects of impaired myelination in this population. In the present study, interhemispheric transfer time was assessed for 14 children with ETPKU, 22 children with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, and 48 normal children, using a manual reaction time paradigm previously validated with callosal agenesis patients (Milner, 1982).

The women operated column sewing machines resting their elbows on the work table. Past evidence showed that the interval between the beginning of work and onset of neuropathy was generally more than one year but less than that for similar diseases observed in other jobs where arthritis of the elbow played a more important role and the average age was higher.

A clinical-EMGraphic examination was carried out in 37 patients with posterior interosseous nerve neuropathy: 5 cases had a traumatic origin, 4 iatrogenic, and 28 non-traumatic. One of the non-traumatic cases had a lipoma, and another had chondroma. In the other cases, nerve entrapment at the level of the arcade of Frohse could be presumed.

The neurological signs and symptoms were insidious in onset; Parinaud syndrome allowed a topical diagnosis, confirmed by CT scan. Computerized Tomography and CSF cytological examination were of the utmost importance to diagnosis and treatment and it confirmed the success of radiotherapy.

A progressive improvement in the disability index and slowing of the clinical course were obtained. No side effects were observed.
