Background: The selection of the best donor for each specific patient is crucial for the success of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). However, there is debate on the choice of the best donor when multiple suitable donors exist.

Methods: By using own data from two transplant centers, we have developed a calculator able to provide the patients' 2-year overall survival (OS) associated with each of the potential donor options during the selection process, in order to support the transplant physician during the choice.

Protein lysine methylation is a particular type of post translational modification that plays an important role in both histone and non-histone function regulation in proteins. Deregulation caused by lysine methyltransferases has been identified as the cause of several diseases including cancer as well as both mental and developmental disorders. Identifying lysine methylation sites is a critical step in both early diagnosis and drug design.

High-dose melphalan plus autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is a standard of care for transplant-eligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM), and adequate hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) collection is crucial to ensure hematologic recovery after ASCT. In this prospective, observational study we evaluated HSC mobilization with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), cyclophosphamide, and 'on-demand' plerixafor (in patients with <20×106 CD34+ cells/L after at least 4 days of G-CSF or failing to collect ≥1×106 CD34+ cells/kg after the first apheresis) in NDMM patients treated with novel agent-based induction therapy. The primary endpoint was the rate of poor mobilizers (patients collecting <2×106 CD34+ cells/kg or requiring plerixafor rescue to reach an adequate HSC harvest).

Objectives: Xylazine is an α 2 -agonist increasingly prevalent in the illicit drug supply. Our objectives were to curate information about xylazine through social media from people who use drugs (PWUDs). Specifically, we sought to answer the following: (1) What are the demographics of Reddit subscribers reporting exposure to xylazine? (2) Is xylazine a desired additive? And (3) what adverse effects of xylazine are PWUDs experiencing?

Methods: Natural language processing (NLP) was used to identify mentions of "xylazine" from posts by Reddit subscribers who also posted on drug-related subreddits.

Umbilical hernia is one of the most common developmental defects in swine, producing large economic losses for farmers, forced to slaughter animals at a younger age and therefore at a lower weight to prevent fatal complications. This study describes a surgical technique to repair umbilical hernia through the use of autologous prostheses, allowing recovery of the affected animals; Methods: After a general examination of the swine and examination of the lesions, the swine were anesthetized and underwent surgery. The surgery was performed by combining the traditional herniorrhaphy with the inclusion and fixation of a peritoneal flap obtained from the incision of the same hernial sac; Results: Follow-ups were carried out at 7, 30 and 60 days and demonstrated healing in all of the treated subjects; Conclusions: The use of this surgical technique allows for providing resistance to herniorrhaphy performed through the use of a cost-free autologous biomaterial prosthesis, with excellent tissue compatibility.
