: Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a life-threatening cerebrovascular condition that triggers a robust inflammatory response and cerebral vasospasm. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of anakinra, an interleukin-1 receptor antagonist, and tocilizumab, an interleukin-6 receptor antagonist, on inflammation and vasospasm in an experimental rat SAH model. : Forty male Sprague Dawley rats (200-250 g) were randomly assigned to five groups: control, SAH, SAH + anakinra (ANA), SAH + tocilizumab (TCZ), and SAH + anakinra + tocilizumab (ANA+TCZ).

FAK inhibitors are in combinatorial clinical testing with agents that prevent Ras-Raf-MAPK pathway activation in various cancers. This study suggests that nuclear FAK limits ERK/MAPK activation in supporting HGSOC cell survival to cisplatin stress. Overall, it is likely that targets of FAK-mediated survival signaling may be tumor type- and context-dependent.

Effect of kangaroo mother care on cerebral oxygenation, physiological parameters, and comfort levels in late-premature infants: A randomized controlled trial.

Objective: To measure the effects kangaroo mother care (KMC) on the regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO) measured with near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in premature infants and to study the physiological stability and comfort of the infants during such interventions.

Design: This was a prospective, single-centered, single-blind, 2-arm, parallel-group randomized controlled trial conducted.

Settings: The study was carried out in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit in Medical Faculty Hospital in Konya/Turkey.

Objective: This study aimed to determine whether isotretinoin and acitretin have beneficial effects on neural tissue damage following acute spinal cord injury.

Methods: Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: control, sham spinal cord injury, spinal cord injury with isotretinoin 15 mg/kg for 14 days, spinal cord injury with isotretinoin 15 mg/kg for 28 days, spinal cord injury with acitretin 10 mg/kg for 14 days, and spinal cord injury with acitretin 10 mg/kg for 28 days. The damage to the spinal cord was formed by the clip compression technique.

The diurnal change of thyroid-stimulating hormone and the effect of this change on thyroid functions in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Purpose: Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) has a pulsatile and circadian rhythm in healthy individuals. We aimed to evaluate the diurnal changes of free thyroid hormones and serum TSH levels in patients with end-stage renal failure (ESRF) whose thyroidal functions are at normal ranges.

Methods: Thirty hemodialysis patients with chronic renal failure and without a known thyroidal disease who are over 18 and 35 healthy individuals were included.

Can a novel drug dose be used for T3 suppression test?

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether 25 µg/day dose of triiodothyronine (T3) can also suppress thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level, as well as the routine dose of 50-100 µg/day in T3 suppression test, which is used to the distinguish between resistance to thyroid hormone (RTH) and TSH secreting pituitary adenoma.

Methods: In this prospective study, 26 patients with genetically proven RTH were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 comprised 13 patients who were administered 50-100 µg/day T3 for 3-9 days, while Group 2 also comprised 13 patients who were administered 25 µg/day T3 for 7 days for T3 suppression test. The two groups' responses to T3 suppression tests were compared.

Although pregnancy is initiated and maintained through highly complex mechanisms, it is essential to understand the events that occur before and during early pregnancy to understand a healthy implantation process. The Notch signal, thought to be involved in this process, is frequently the subject of research with its different aspects. To better understand the role of Notch signaling in the peri-implantation period of the mouse uterus, we investigated the state of expression and localization of Notch 3, Notch 4, Rbp-J, Hes1, Hes7, Hey2, HeyL, and Fbw7 in the uterus and implantation sites in early pregnancy.

The effects of hydroxytyrosol on Prdx6 and insulin expression in diabetic rat pancreases.

Diabetes mellitus is a widespread endocrine disease worldwide, accompanying chronic hyperglycemia. In this study, we investigated the effect of hydroxytyrosol, which exerts an antioxidant effect, on the expressions of insulin and peroxiredoxin-6 (Prdx6), which protect cells against oxidative injury in diabetic rat pancreas. This experimental study had four groups with ten animals in each group: control (nondiabetic) group, hydroxytyrosol group [10 mg/kg/day intraperitoneal injection (ip) hydroxytyrosol for 30 days], streptozotocin group (single ip injection of 55 mg/kg streptozotocin), and streptozotocin + hydroxytyrosol group (single ip injection of streptozotocin and ip injection of 10 mg/kg/day hydroxytyrosol for 30 days).

Nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor- 2 (Nrf2) is a nuclear transcription factor that facilitates transcription of genes for detoxification enzymes and antioxidant proteins. We investigated the distribution and expression of Nrf2 during the peri-implantation period. We detected Nrf2 in uteri of mice during estrus (control) and on days 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 of pregnancy using immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting.

The Importance of DHEA-S Levels in Cushing's Syndrome; Is There a Cut-off Value in the Differential Diagnosis?

The purpose of this study was to determine possible cut-off levels of basal DHEA-S percentile rank in the differential diagnosis of patients with Cushing's syndrome (CS) with ACTH levels in the gray zone and normal DHEA-S levels. In this retrospective study including 623 pathologically confirmed CS, the DHEA-S percentile rank was calculated in 389 patients with DHEA-S levels within reference interval. The patients were classified as group 1 (n=265 Cushing's disease; CD), group 2 (n=104 adrenal CS) and group 3 (n=20 ectopic ACTH syndrome).

Biochemical characteristics and calcium and PTH levels of patients with high normal and elevated serum 25(OH)D levels in Turkey: DeVIT-TOX survey.

Unlabelled: Vitamin D intake over the recommended dose is usually associated with high serum 25(OH)D levels and generally not associated with symptoms of hypercalcemia. High doses of cholecalciferol need to be avoided to protect against vitamin D toxicity and related complications. Strict adherence to the clinical guidelines for treating vitamin D deficiency can ensure safe and effective treatment.

Identifying Clinical Characteristics of Hypoparathyroidism in Turkey: HIPOPARATURK-NET Study.

Hypoparathyroidism is an orphan disease with ill-defined epidemiology that is subject to geographic variability. We conducted this study to assess the demographics, etiologic distribution, treatment patterns and complication frequency of patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism in Turkey. This is a retrospective, cross-sectional database study, with collaboration of 30 endocrinology centers located in 20 cities across seven geographical regions of Turkey.

Central Diabetes Insipidus in a Preterm Neonate Unresponsive to Intranasal Desmopressin.

Central or neurogenic diabetes insipidus (DI) is uncommon in the pediatric age group and rarely occurs in neonates. It should be suspected in any neonate presenting with excessive urine output and hypernatremia that persists despite increased fluid administration. Diabetes insipidus may be secondary to asphyxia, intraventricular hemorrhage, infection, and structural abnormalities or may be idiopathic or genetic.

The effect of apelin-13 on gastric ischemia/reperfusion injury: the roles of sensory nerves and vagus nerve.

Apelin is a peptide that plays a role in physiological processes such as angiogenesis, apoptosis, and proliferation. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of capsaicin-sensitive afferent neurons and vagus in the effect of apelin against ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Alternative treatment of resistant hypoparathyroidism by intermittent infusion of teriparatide using an insulin pump: A case report.

Hypoparathyroidism usually responds to oral active vitamin D and calcium, but, although rare, some patients do not respond to this treatment. A 47-year-old Caucasian female presented to our medical unit with classical oral treatment-resistant hypocalcemia after thyroidectomy. Teriparatide was infused through the insulin pump with dosage set to 1 unit which equals to 2.

Neonatal hemodynamics and management of hypotension in newborns.

Hemodynamic instability is frequent in high-risk infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units. However, monitoring and treatment strategies of those conditions might show variations among the units. Different factors can compromise hemodynamic status in preterm/ term infants.
