Article Synopsis
  • Generalized lichen planus (GLP) is a chronic skin condition affecting about 1% of the population and has limited research compared to other types like oral lichen planus; this study aimed to find effective steroid-sparing treatments.* -
  • The study involved 90 patients who were treated with systemic steroids and one of three therapies (azathioprine, dapsone, or narrowband UV-B) over 16 weeks, measuring itch severity and quality of life at baseline and 24 weeks.* -
  • Results showed that narrowband UV-B had the best overall improvement in itching and quality of life, with significant differences in treatment effectiveness compared to azathioprine and dapsone, and both

One common cause of vision loss after retinal detachment surgery is the formation of proliferative and contractile fibrocellular membranes. This aberrant wound healing process is mediated by epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and hyper-proliferation of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells. Current treatment relies primarily on surgical removal of these membranes.

Introduction: Pemphigus, an autoimmune disease, was fatal before the era of corticosteroids. With the advent of steroids, mortality decreased but morbidity was present due to the side effects of high dose steroids. Newer drugs targeted at the molecular level are said to have fewer side effects and improved effectiveness.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze phytochemicals and assess the antioxidant and anti-proliferative properties of a specific marine organism, Turner, using various extraction and analytical techniques.
  • Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of several beneficial compounds, with the -hexane extract exhibiting stronger antioxidant capability compared to the -aqueous extract.
  • The anti-proliferative tests indicated that the -hexane extract was more effective against cancer cells, suggesting potential for further pharmaceutical development of anticancer treatments.

The silver nanoparticles synthesized from Turbinaria ornata (To-AgNPs) showed spherical with crystalline nature (20-32 nm) was evaluated against fourth instar larvae of three mosquitoes. The maximum activity of To-AgNPs was recorded on Aedes aegypti followed by Anopheles stephensi and Culex quinquefasciatus with the following lethal concentration values (μg/ml): LC of 0.738, 1.

The present study pertains to the synthesis, structural elucidation, antioxidant and in vitro cytotoxic properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from marine angiosperm, Cymodocea serrulata aqueous extract (CSAE). The characterization was made through UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), zeta potential and dynamic light scanning (DLS) analyses. The UV-Vis spectrum resulted in a strong surface plasmon resonance (SPR) at 430 nm.

A rapid bio-reduction of chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) was achieved by Chloroxylon swietenia DC leaf extract (CSLE), which resulted in the formation of well dispersed C. swietenia gold nanoparticles (CSGNPs). The formation of GNPs was confirmed by color changes from yellowish green to purple and their characteristic peak at 545 nm.

Mosquitoes and mosquito-borne diseases are prone to raise health and economic impacts. Synthetic insecticide-based interventions are indeed in situations of epidemic outbreak and sudden increases of adult mosquitoes. Nanoparticles are being used in many commercial applications and were found that aqueous silver ions can be reduced by an aqueous extract of plant parts to generate extremely stable silver nanoparticles in water.

Tea is an aromatic beverage prepared by pouring boiling water over alleviated leaves of the tea plant. Tea prepared from the aerial parts of Antigonon leptopus has been traditionally used as remedy for cold, diabetes and pain in many countries. The gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) synthesized from powdered leaf extract (decoction) of A.

Progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford syndrome, is an extremely rare, severe genetic condition wherein symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at an early age. It is an autosomal dominant disorder. It is not seen in siblings of affected children although there are very few case reports of progeria affecting more than one child in a family.
