Lost Prevention? Assessing Secondary and Tertiary Prevention Potential in Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events.

During Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), nonprofits place heavy value on delivering events, often with little evidence of their value to tertiary, secondary, and primary prevention. This multiple case design employed ethnographic methods to assess five SAAM events and the logic by which they contribute to prevention. Articulated through a pairing of communication and planned behavior theories, the findings indicated that events were mainly deployed in service of today's survivors, almost as an extension of intervention programming.

Preclinical evidence for therapeutic efficacy of selective estrogen receptor modulators for uterine leiomyoma.

Objective: Uterine leiomyoma are the most common gynecologic neoplasm and a primary cause of hysterectomy in premenopausal women. Preclinical studies were conducted in the Eker rat model to investigate the potential efficacy of selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) as therapeutic agents for this tumor.

The efficacy of nifedipine, a calcium channel antagonist, in the treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria, was evaluated in a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover trial. Ten patients with chronic urticaria refractory to maximally tolerated doses of H1 and H2 antihistamines and in whom extensive evaluation failed to identify a cause for their urticaria were entered into the study. Patients continued with their prestudy antihistamine regimens.
