It is crucial to identify neurodevelopmental disorders in infants early on for timely intervention to improve their long-term outcomes. Combining natural play with quantitative measurements of developmental milestones can be an effective way to swiftly and efficiently detect infants who are at risk of neurodevelopmental delays. Clinical studies have established differences in toy interaction behaviors between full-term infants and pre-term infants who are at risk for cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders.

It is an extremely rare anomaly that may be associated with anomalies in other organ systems, the extent and severity of which may affect the prognosis. The management is challenging and may have far reaching implications for the individual and family.

Infants at risk for developmental delays often exhibit postures and movements that may provide a window into potential impairment for cerebral palsy and other neuromotor conditions. We developed a simple 4 DOF robot pediatric simulator to help provide insight into how infant kinematic movements may affect the center of pressure (COP), a common measure thought to be sensitive to neuromotor delay when assessed from supine infants at play. We conducted two experiments: 1) we compared changes in COP caused by limb movements to a human infant and 2) we determined if we could predict COP position due to limb movements using simulator kinematic pose retrieved from video and a sensorized mat.

Background: The conventional groin incision herniotomy is still being adhered to despite high success rate of high scrotal approach. Hence, the aim of this study was to compare the outcomes of high scrotal and conventional approaches for the treatment of inguinal hernia in boys.
Methods: A prospective study of 100 boys with 108 inguinal hernias whose ages were less than 15 years.

For decades now, a lot of radio wave path loss propagation models have been developed for predictions across different environmental terrains. Amongst these models, empirical models are practically the most popular due to their ease of application. However, their prediction accuracies are not as high as required.

This audit was conducted to determine the 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day perioperative mortality rates and the predictors of mortality in a pediatric surgical cohort.
Methods: This was a prospective study of children whose ages ranged from a few hours to 15 years and who were operated on between May 2019 and April 2020.
Background: Paediatric laparoscopic surgery is fast growing worldwide, with many pathologies now being treated even in the youngest of patients. We hereby report our experience with the first 114 cases.
Objectives: Our aim was to highlight our progress and lessons learnt practicing laparoscopic paediatric surgery in our institution.
Inguinal hernia in children is currently treated through a groin incision with access to the inguinal canal and handling of the spermatic cord. In the face of the growing utilization of laparoscopic surgery in Nigeria, it was important to compare the outcome of laparoscopic and open herniotomy (OH) in our local teaching hospital to create a basis for recommendation. We compared OH with laparoscopic needle assisted hernia repair (LNAR) in children in Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile Ife.

The Department of Surgery introduced suturing skills acquisition workshop into the curriculum of the Final-Year Medical Students in 2016. This study describes the preliminary experience and the perception of the participants.

Currently, the gold standard of treatment is non-operative reduction. We sought to assess the suitability of hydrostatic (saline) reduction of intussusception in children in our institution.

The aim of this study is to report the 24-h and 30-day overall, and surgery and anesthesia-related, mortality in a tertiary hospital.
Methods: This is a retrospective review of perioperative mortality in children ≤15years at a general pediatric surgery unit.
Background: The optimal management strategy for dirty abdominal wounds has yet to be determined, but studies indicate that delayed primary closure (DPC) may be a reliable method of reducing surgical site infection (SSI) rate in these wounds. In this study, of dirty laparotomy wounds following typhoid ileal perforation (TIP), the SSI rate, incidence of wound dehiscence, and length of hospital stay (LOS) are compared in wounds primarily closed to those closed in the delayed primary fashion.
Patients And Methods: The study was conducted over a 12-month period.
A study was conducted for 22 weeks to determine the effects of concentrate supplementations at three crude protein (CP) levels, i.e. low protein diet-LPD 12.

Background: The performance and parasitology of semi-intensively managed West African dwarf (WAD) lambs were evaluated following exposure to gastrointestinal helminth infected paddock and varied protein-energy feeds.
Methods: Twenty four lambs obtained from the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics and brought to Directorate of University farm (DUFARM) of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria, where the research was carried out in 2014, were grouped into four each containing six animals based on different energy-protein feed combination thus; group 1(G1) low energy low protein, group 2 (G2) low energy high protein, group 3 (G3) high energy low protein and group 4 (G4) high energy high protein. Experimental animals were supplemented with concentrate feed after grazing on daily in a nematode infected paddock.
Background: Paediatric endoscopy performed by adult gastroenterologists is a service delivery model that increases the access of children to endoscopy in countries where paediatric gastroenterologists with endoscopy skills are scarce. However, studies on the usefulness of this model in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa are scarce. We aimed to evaluate the indications, procedures, diagnostic yield and safety of paediatric endoscopy performed by adult gastroenterologists in a Nigerian tertiary health facility.
