Objectives: Verify whether hypervigilance to pain (HP) and sleep quality (SQ) are confounding variables in the infrared thermography (IT) examination of the temporomandibular joint and temporal and masseter muscles.

Methods: A cross-sectional and analytical study was conducted, collecting HP and SQ data from 80 participants without temporomandibular disorders (TMD), performing their IT and another 40 participants with TMD. For the selection of participants with and without TMD, the TMD Pain Screener questionnaire and axis I of the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders were applied.

In this article, the synthesis of antioxidant peptides in the enzymatic hydrolysis of caprine casein was analyzed at three different time points (60 min, 90 min, and 120 min) using immobilized pepsin on activated and modified carbon (AC, ACF, ACG 50, ACG 100). The immobilization assays revealed a reduction in the biocatalysts' activity compared to the free enzyme. Among the modified ones, ACG 50 exhibited greater activity and better efficiency for reuse cycles, with superior values after 60 min and 90 min.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how different concentrations of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) affect various properties of resin composites, including degree of conversion (DC), flexural strength (FS), and microhardness (KH).
  • While FS, flexural modulus (FM), and KH did not show significant differences across the samples, the DC was highest in the control group (C0) and decreased with higher BHT concentrations, particularly at 0.5%.
  • BHT at 0.1% resulted in the best overall outcomes, providing a balance between handling time and hardness improvement, despite a slight reduction in DC.

A widely disseminated native species from Australia, , which is mainly cultivated in Brazil and South Africa, represents a rich source of natural tannins used in the tanning process. Many flowers of the species are used as sources of compounds of interest for the cosmetic industry, such as phenolic compounds. In this study, supercritical fluid extraction was used to obtain non-volatile compounds from flowers for the first time.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the immobilization method of trypsin on biochar on the hydrolysis of casein from different sources, when compared to the process using trypsin in native form, to obtain bioactive peptides. The modification of the surface of biochar with glutaraldehyde was effective, as shown by the results of FTIR assay and the texture profile of the materials. Both activated and functionalized biochar showed high immobilization efficiency (greater than 87%) and high binding capacity (greater than 91 mg/g).
