In recent years, bioactive lipids particularly medium-chain triglycerides and conjugated linolenic fatty acids have obtained more attention due to their possible applicability in obesity metabolism modulation. These compounds are capable to increase thermogenesis and reduce weight gain through the modulation of key neurohormones such as leptin and adiponectin. The purpose of this work was to develop functional yogurts through the addition of coconut (rich in medium-chain fatty acids) or pomegranate oils (rich in conjugated linolenic acids).

Quantifying ethnic segregation in cities through random walks.

Socioeconomic segregation has an important role in the emergence of large-scale inequalities in urban areas. Most of the available measures of spatial segregation depend on the scale and size of the system under study, or neglect large-scale spatial correlations, or rely on ad-hoc parameters, making it hard to compare different systems on equal grounds. We propose here a family of non-parametric measures for spatial distributions, based on the statistics of the trajectories of random walks on graphs associated to a spatial system.

Cerebral venous thrombosis in a young asymptomatic COVID-19 patient.

We report an unusual case of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT temporally associated with an otherwise asymptomatic severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. While coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been associated with thrombotic events at different sites, most published cases report on symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection. We are confident this was an otherwise asymptomatic infection as the patient reported no symptoms and molecular and serological testing was consistent with infection more than 3weeks in the past.

Prognostic Factors and Survival According to Tumor Subtype in Women With Breast Cancer Brain Metastases.

Breast cancer (BC) is the second most cause of central nervous system (CNS) metastases. Studies report that almost one third of patients (pts) with triple-negative, one-third with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive and 15% of those with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer will develop brain metastases. It is known that the development of symptomatic brain metastases in women with advanced breast cancer is associated with poor prognosis, irrespective of local and systemic treatments.

Factors associated with deaths from dengue in a city in a metropolitan region in Southeastern Brazil: a case-control study.

Background: Dengue is a public health problem in Brazil. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze factors associated with deaths from dengue in residents of the municipality of Contagem, Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, during the 2016 epidemic.

Methods: To determine the factors associated with deaths due to dengue, we used a logistic regression model (univariate and multivariable) in which the response variable (outcome) was death due to dengue.

Introduction: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) generally appears to have milder clinical symptoms and fewer laboratory abnormalities in children. It remains unknown whether children and young people with inflammatory chronic diseases who acquire SARS-CoV-2 infection have a more severe course, due to either underlying disease or immunosuppressive treatments.

Objectives: To assess the epidemiological features and clinical outcomes of children and young people with inflammatory chronic diseases followed at Pediatric Rheumatology Clinics who were infected with SARS-CoV-2.

SARS-CoV-2 air sampling: A systematic review on the methodologies for detection and infectivity.

This systematic review aims to present an overview of the current aerosol sampling methods (and equipment) being used to investigate the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the air, along with the main parameters reported in the studies that are essential to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each method and perspectives for future research regarding this mode of transmission. A systematic literature review was performed on PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus to assess the current air sampling methodologies being applied to SARS-CoV-2. Most of the studies took place in indoor environments and healthcare settings and included air and environmental sampling.

The Implementation of an Integrated Oral Care Protocol for Pediatric Cancer Patients: a Qualitative Study.

Aim: In this study, we evaluated the impact of an integrated oral care protocol for pediatric patients undergoing antineoplastic treatment from the perspective of the multidisciplinary team, oral healthcare team, and caregivers.

Subject And Methods: This was a qualitative study carried out in the pediatric sector of a reference cancer hospital in Brazil. Focus group and individual semi-structured interview techniques were used, and the data were analyzed by the Discourse of the Collective Subject (DCS) method.

HIV epidemic among Brazilian women who have sex with women: An ecological study.

The influences of public policies fighting HIV among women who have sex with women is scarcely studied. This study aimed to analyse the time series of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic, between 2007 and 2020, among Brazilian women who have sex with women, in order to evaluate the effect of Brazilian policies for fighting HIV in this subpopulation compared to women who have sex with men (WSM). This ecological study employed HIV and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) new cases among women who have sex strictly with women (WSW), women who have sex with men and women (WSMW), and WSM reported to the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação from 2007 to 2020.

Effectiveness of a hybrid digital substance abuse prevention approach combining e-Learning and in-person class sessions.

Background: Effective school-based programs for preventing substance abuse offer considerable public health potential. Yet limited class time and uneven implementation fidelity can be barriers to widespread adoption and high-quality implementation. Background: Achondroplasia is a genetic condition that can cause complications across the lifespan. While complications in childhood are well documented, the natural history of achondroplasia in adults has, until recently, been relatively lacking, and little is known about the care they receive or how they access it. A cross-sectional evaluation of street food and takeaway food customers was conducted in 2017. All eligible vending sites (n = 348) in the vicinity of selected markets and bus stops were included.

Background: The main goal of this study was to analyze the HIV epidemic temporally and spatially among young people living in Pará, Brazil, from 2007 to 2018.

Methods: For the temporal analysis, we employed an integrated autoregression of moving averages model associated with the seasonal trend using the LOESS decomposition method, which allowed for predictions to be made. In the spatial analysis, the techniques of autocorrelation, spatial and spatio-temporal risk analysis, and geographically weighted regression were used.

Broad Spectrum Functional Activity of Structurally Related Monoanionic Au(III) Bis(Dithiolene) Complexes.

The biological properties of sixteen structurally related monoanionic gold (III) bis(dithiolene/ diselenolene) complexes were evaluated.
