Efficient recognition and extraction of hazardous anionic pollutants from water medium is of great significance for environmental concerns, representing a challenging area of research in supramolecular chemistry. In this study, we present, for the first time, a comprehensive demonstration of the ability of chalcogen bonding (ChB) to recognize and remove the ReO from 100 % water medium. The anion recognition ability is well elucidated through solution phase NMR and ITC studies, which clearly reveal the selective binding of ReO over other oxo-anions.

Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE) is a venerable and widely used method for the separation of a targeted solute between two immiscible liquids. In recent years, this method has gained popularity in the supramolecular chemistry community due to the development of various types of synthetic receptors that effectively and selectively bind specific guests in an aqueous medium through different supramolecular interactions. This has eventually led to the development of state-of-the-art extraction technologies for the removal and purification of anions, cations, ion pairs, and small molecules from one liquid phase to another liquid phase, which is an industrially viable method.

A unified strategy is disclosed that builds on successfully engaging the aniline nitrogen of 1,3-amphoteric γ-aminocyclopentenone for a tandem annulation with electron-poor alkynes, solely assisted by the H-bonding network of HFIP. This metal-free mild strategy provides access to medicinally relevant aza-bicyclo-octanes en route to another important scaffold: cyclopenta[]pyrrole.

Single-channel continuous wave (CW) radar is widely used and has gained popularity due to its simple architecture despite its inability to measure the range and angular location of the target. Its popularity arises in the industry due to the simplicity of the required components, the low demands on the sampling rate, and their low costs. Through-the-wall life signs detection using microwave Doppler Radar is an active area of research and investigation.

A selenium-based tripodal chalcogen bond (ChB) donor TPI-3Se is demonstrated for the recognition and extraction of I from 100% water medium. NMR and ITC studies with the halides reveal that the ChB donor selectively binds with the large, weakly hydrated I. Interestingly, I crystallizes out selectively in the presence of other halides supporting the superiority of the selective recognition of I.

The reaction repertoire for forming transient aziridinone or azaoxyallyl cations from α-halohydroxamate is conceptually extended to design Kdo-glycosyl donors by installing the hydroxamate moiety at an anomeric centre, which is shown to be highly effective for stereoselective access to β-Kdo glycosides. The pivotal roles of hydroxamate over amide are revealed in control experiments.

A halogen bond-based water-soluble tetrapodal iodoimidazolium receptor, , exhibited a high degree of efficiency (∼96%) in extracting ReO from 100% aqueous medium within a wide range of concentrations and of pH values along with excellent reusability. The solid-state X-ray diffraction study showed the trapping of ReO by via the Re-O····I halogen bonding interaction. XPS studies also suggested the interaction between I and ReO through polarization of the electron density of I atoms by ReO.

A new strategy for access to spirocyclopentenonyl oxindole frameworks is disclosed. Suitably anchored furfuryl alcohol at C3 of an oxindole was used for the aza-Piancatelli rearrangement, which furnished spirocyclic aminocyclopentenone frameworks with catalytic phosphomolybdic acid. The scope of the transformation was extended to the carbo-Piancatelli rearrangement with various indole derivatives.

This paper proposes a novel local feature descriptor coined as a local instant-and-center-symmetric neighbor-based pattern of the extrema-images (LINPE) to detect breast abnormalities in thermal breast images. It is a hybrid descriptor that combines two different feature descriptors: one is the inverse-probability difference extrema (IpDE), and another is the local instant and center-symmetric neighbor-based pattern (LICsNP). IpDE is developed to compute the intensity-inhomogeneity-invariant feature-based image of the breast thermogram.

Observation of an unexpected, Lewis acid promoted displacement of latent reactive γ-amino group on cyclopentenone presented unparalleled opportunity for enone functionalization and annulations with indole derivatives, which is developed in the current study. Herein, a vast range of C3/N-indolyl enones and indole alkaloid-like compound were accessed in excellent yields (up to 99 %) and selectivity through a one-pot operation. The mechanism most likely involves an unprecedented trait of Piancatelli-type rearrangement where influence of the gem-diaryl group appeared crucial.

Lewis acid catalyzed highly efficient [3+2] annulation of spirocyclic Donor-Acceptor cyclopropanes (DACs) with exo-heterocyclic olefins is reported to furnish various biologically relevant dispiro-2,3-dioxopyrrolidine[cyclopentane]oxindole and dispiropyrazolone[cyclopentane]oxindole frameworks. This report highlights the use of oxindole-activated spiro-DACs as potential synthons to access complex dispirocarbocyclic oxindoles via ring-enlargement of the former, with high yields and diastereoselectivity.

Segmentation of suspicious regions (SRs) of a thermal breast image (TBI) is a very significant and challenging problem for the identification of breast cancer. Therefore, in this work, we have proposed an active contour model for the segmentation of the SRs in TBI. The proposed segmentation method combines three significant steps.
