A Clinical Study on Audiological Evaluation in Patients with Active Squamous Variety of Chronic Otitis Media Following Canal Wall Down Mastoidectomy with Ossicular Reconstruction.

To evaluate hearing results following canal wall down mastoidectomy with ossicular reconstruction for Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media of Active Squamosal variety & evaluate various factors related to surgery impacting hearing results. This prospective study involves 40 patients of active squamosal variety of chronic otitis media who attended ENT OPD and underwent canal wall down mastoidectomy with ossiculoplasty during the period from November 2014 to October 2015. All the patients were subjected to pre and 3 months post-op hearing assessment.

Harmonic Scalpel Versus Coblation Tonsillectomy A Comparative Study.

Tonsillectomy is an age old procedure in ENT practice. Though traditional dissection method is gold standard, we surgeons are trying different techniques like electrocautery, coblation, harmonic scalpel (HS) mainly to improve surgical convenience, to decrease operative time, post operative pain, intra and post operative bleeding and fast return to normal life. In this particular study we are comparing coblation and HS as surgical tool in tonsillectomy.

Unlabelled: Strain ST-14, characterized as a member of the genus Cupriavidus, was capable of utilizing 2- and 4-nitrobenzoates individually as sole sources of carbon and energy. Biochemical studies revealed the assimilation of 2- and 4-nitrobenzoates via 3-hydroxyanthranilate and protocatechuate, respectively. Screening of a genomic fosmid library of strain ST-14 constructed in Escherichia coli identified two gene clusters, onb and pob-pca, to be responsible for the complete degradation of 2-nitrobenzoate and protocatechuate, respectively.

Functional Characterization of a Novel Member of the Amidohydrolase 2 Protein Family, 2-Hydroxy-1-Naphthoic Acid Nonoxidative Decarboxylase from Burkholderia sp. Strain BC1.

Unlabelled: The gene encoding a nonoxidative decarboxylase capable of catalyzing the transformation of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthoic acid (2H1NA) to 2-naphthol was identified, recombinantly expressed, and purified to homogeneity. The putative gene sequence of the decarboxylase (hndA) encodes a 316-amino-acid protein (HndA) with a predicted molecular mass of 34 kDa. HndA exhibited high identity with uncharacterized amidohydrolase 2 proteins of various Burkholderia species, whereas it showed a modest 27% identity with γ-resorcylate decarboxylase, a well-characterized nonoxidative decarboxylase belonging to the amidohydrolase superfamily.
