The Mediterranean Sea houses a rather diverse chiton fauna (Mollusca: Polyplacophora). Four are here described as new, all based upon loose valves recovered from biogenic sediments: Leptochiton freiwaldi sp. nov.

Our Experience of the De la Torre-Mondragon Technique in the Surgical Management of Hirschsprung's Disease: A Report on 52 Cases.

Background: The authors report their experience of the transanal endorectal pull through technique as described by De la Torre Mondragon in the treatment of Hirschsprung's disease (HD).

Materials And Methods: It was a retro prospective, observational and descriptive hospital based study involving all proven cases of HD managed within a time frame of 8 years.

Results: Fifty two patients with a mean age of 18 months at the time of surgery.

Bedside reduction of gastroschisis: A preliminary experience in yaounde-cameroon.

Background: Gastroschisis denotes a congenital or sporadic malformation of the anterior abdominal wall, which is rarely associated with other anomalies. The mortality in African countries is still high almost 100%.

Molecular analysis of (Poli, 1791) (Polyplacophora, Leptochitonidae) from the Mediterranean and near Atlantic.

In the present paper we used a molecular data set (including mitochondrial partial 16S rRNA and COI gene sequences) to examine the genetic structure of (Poli, 1791) (Polyplacophora, Leptochitonidae) - a distinctive shallow water chiton and member of the basal branching Lepidopleurida, which is widespread in and adjacent to the Mediterranean. Pre-Pandemic Cross-Reactive Immunity against SARS-CoV-2 among Central and West African Populations.

For more than two years after the emergence of COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-2019), significant regional differences in morbidity persist. These differences clearly show lower incidence rates in several regions of the African and Asian continents. The work reported here aimed to test the hypothesis of a pre-pandemic natural immunity acquired by some human populations in central and western Africa, which would, therefore, pose the hypothesis of an original antigenic sin with a virus antigenically close to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Sleeve gastrectomy in the surgical management of obesity in Cameroon (a sub-Saharan country): A single-institute retrospective review of 30-day postoperative morbidity and mortality.

Background: Obesity is a major public health concern even in sub-Saharan Africa. In this part of the world, characterized by limited technical platform and resuscitation facilities, sleeve gastrectomy in the surgical management of obesity is a quite new procedure. We aimed to assess intraoperative complications and 30-day postoperative morbidity and mortality of this procedure in our setting.

Clinical epidemiology and mortality risk factors of gastric cancer in a sub-Saharan African setting: a retrospective analysis of 120 cases in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

Introduction: in sub-Saharan Africa, there is scare published data on cancer in general and gastric cancer in particular.

Methods: we conducted a multicenter retrospective analysis of the medical records of patients followed for gastric cancer in 5 hospital departments in the city of Yaoundé (Cameroon) over 6 years.

Results: we recorded a total of 120 patients with a mean age of 53.

Anal/anogenital lesion revealing child sexual abuse: A case series of an unusual situation in a black African setting.

Introduction: Child sexual abuse (CSA) remains a big taboo in black Africa with an underestimated prevalence. In our context, the majority of cases are known by revelations of the child at least one year after the facts.

Presentation Of Cases: We report three cases of CSA revealed by an anal/anogenital lesion requiring surgery.

Late Pleistocene Red Sea Mollusca: 1. Polyplacophora.

This study describes the chiton fauna (Mollusca, Polyplacophora) from the marine Pleistocene coral reef deposits bordering the Red Sea coast and dating to the last interglacial epoch (Marine Isotopic Substage 5e, MIS5e). Twenty-one species were identified, of which only three were previously known from the Pleistocene of the Red Sea (Lucilina sueziensis, Acanthopleura vaillantii and Acanthochitona penicillata). Eight are recorded as fossil for the first time.

Naticid gastropods from the middle Miocene of western Ukraine.

The paper covers 11 species of naticid gastropods occurring in the lower Serravallian (Upper Badenian) strata of western Ukraine (Central Paratethys). The studied material (over 1,700 naticids) represents six genera and 11 species, of which eight are new: Cochlis odovychenorum, Cochlis ukrainensis, Tectonatica anistratenkorum, Tectonatica pseudoprietoi, Euspira sirenkoi, Payraudeautia ermesi, Payraudeautia sabrinae and Payraudeautia varovtsiana. Additionally, we have also identified Euspira protracta (Eichwald, 1830), Polinices staszici (Friedberg, 1923) and Sinum affinis (Eichwald, 1830).

Proximal hypospadias repair using the koyanagi-hayashi technique. A review of 15 cases.

Background: Several surgical approaches or modifications of existing techniques have been described for the repair of hypospadias. In Sub-Saharan Africa, a two-stage approach is the preferred option in proximal cases with severe penile curvature.

Objective: The authors describe their experience with one-stage repair of proximal hypospadias with severe penile curvature using the Koyanagi-Hayashi technique.

Anterior approach in humeral plating osteosynthesis.

Context: Humeral plating osteosynthesis is controversial, particularly regarding the choice between anterior and lateral approach, data for which in the context of a low-income country are lacking.

Hypothesis: The anterior approach is an easy surgical technique, allowing good anatomic reconstruction. We hypothesize that the anterior approach is associated with fewer neurovascular lesions and functional sequelae than the lateral approach.

Infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis: a 4-year experience from two tertiary care centres in Cameroon.

Introduction: Paediatric fractures are often of good prognosis due to auto-correction of insufficient fracture reduction by bone remodeling. In sub-Saharan Africa, traditional healers are renowned for managing fractures and there is a neglect for specialized pediatric fracture care. Phenotypic characterization of regulatory T cells from antiretroviral-naive HIV-1-infected people.

Regulatory T (Treg) cells play a key role in dampening excessive immune activation. However, antiretroviral therapy (ART) -naive HIV-1 infection maintains the immune system in a sustained state of activation that could alter both Treg cell surface markers and functions. As Treg cell surface markers are directly linked to their functions the overall objective of this study was to determine how ART-naive HIV infection affects the phenotypic properties of Treg cells.

Our experience of proximal hypospadias repair using the Cloutier-Bracka technique at the Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric Hospital, Yaounde-Cameroon.

Background: In parts of Africa, routine circumcision is practised and sometimes even on children with hypospadias. The lack of preputial foreskin renders urethroplasty more difficult and often requires to use of a mucosal graft as described by Bracka.

[Management Of Undescended Testis In Children In Yaounde. A Report On 71 Cases].

Objective: The aim of this work was to describe the epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of undescended testicle in the of Pediatric Surgery service of the Yaoundé gyneco-obstetric and pediatric hospital.

Method: Our study was retrospective, descriptive and analytical from June 2008 to December 2016; a period of 8 years and 6 months. Included in this study were records of pediatric patients aged 0 - 15 years who had been managed for an undescended testis in the Pediatric Surgery service of the Yaoundé gyneco-obstetric and pediatric hospital and followed up at our outpatient clinic.

A case report of Cowper's syringocele in an 18-months old infant at the Yaoundé Gynaeco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital.

Syringocele or dilatation of the duct of the bulbo-urethral (Cowper's) gland is usually of congenital origin but can be acquired. It is a very rare deformity, <10 cases have been reported in literature. The main objective is to describe an additional case of syringocele of Cowper's glands and review the literature.

Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in infants: is it a congenital or acquired disorder? Reflections on 2 cases.

Based on evidence from two collected and treated clinical observations of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in children of 5 and 12 months of age, the authors give their point of view on the unresolved issue of the etiology of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. They emphasize that there are more and more factors to prove this is an acquired condition.

Strangulated or incarcerated spontaneous lumbar hernia as exceptional cause of intestinal obstruction: case report and review of the literature.

Lumbar hernias are rare conditions and about 300 cases have been reported since the first description by Barbette in 1672. Therefore strangulation or incarceration are also exceptionally encountered. We present a 62 -year-old-man who had strangulated left lumbar hernia and consequent mechanical small-bowel obstruction, alongside with a non strangulated right lumbar hernia.
