Aim: To evaluate short- to medium term outcome of total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) in complex fractures of the distal humerus.

Methods: A consecutive series of 24 complex distal humerus fractures operated with TEA in the period 2006-2012 was evaluated with the Mayo Elbow Performance score (MEPS), plain radiographs, complications and overall satisfaction. The indications for surgery were 1: AO type B3 or C3 or Sheffield type 3 fracture and age above 65 or 2: fracture and severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Objectives: Somatic mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) are predictors of efficacy for treatment with the EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor erlotinib in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A CA repeat polymorphism in intron 1 of the EGFR gene influences the transcription of the EGFR gene. This study evaluates the association between the CA repeat polymorphism and outcome in NSCLC patients treated with erlotinib.

Background And Objectives: Transfusion-associated anaphylaxis (TAA) is a severe adverse reaction reported to occur in 1:9000-90,000 transfusions. According to the Danish Registration of Transfusion Risks (DART), the frequency is 1:300,000 transfusions, which suggests insufficient reporting of TAA in Denmark. Our aims were to identify possible cases of TAA, to characterize their symptoms and tryptase levels and to investigate the reporting of TAA to the haemovigilance systems.

T47D breast cancer cells switch from ER/HER to HER/c-Src signaling upon acquiring resistance to the antiestrogen fulvestrant.

In this study, T47D cell lines resistant to the antiestrogen fulvestrant were established and analyzed to explore, whether a switch to HER signaling, as seen in fulvestrant resistant MCF-7 cell lines, is a general resistance mechanism. We find that parental T47D cells depend on ER and HER signaling for growth. Fulvestrant resistant T47D cells have lost ER expression and, although HER2 was over expressed, growth was only partially driven by HER receptors.

Long-standing prophylactic therapy vs. episodic treatment in young people with severe haemophilia: a comparison of age-matched Danish and Russian patients.

Two distinctly different substitution principles are commonly used in haemophilia: treatment at bleeding episodes only referred to as on-demand treatment, and prophylactic factor administration. The aim of the cross-sectional study which was undertaken in young patients suffering severe haemophilia A was to challenge our hypothesis that on-demand treatment is inferior to prophylactic substitution in prevention of chronic joint disease at young age. Introduction: Rapid tests for rifampicin resistance may be useful for identifying isolates at high risk of drug resistance, including multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB). However, choice of diagnostic test and prevalence of rifampicin resistance may both impact a diagnostic strategy for identifying drug resistant-TB. We performed a systematic review to evaluate the performance of WHO-endorsed rapid tests for rifampicin resistance detection.

Expression of PIK3CA, PTEN mRNA and PIK3CA mutations in primary breast cancer: association with lymph node metastases.
