Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of one-hour post-load plasma glucose (1 h-PG) levels as an early marker for Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) risk by analyzing a longitudinal cohort over ten years.
  • It categorizes participants into three groups based on their initial 1 h-PG levels and measures insulin sensitivity and β-cell function at different stages.
  • Results indicate that individuals with higher 1 h-PG levels have a greater risk of developing T2D and experiencing decreased insulin sensitivity and β-cell function, highlighting the potential for early interventions in those with high 1 h-PG but normal glucose tolerance.

Backgruound: The Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score is an immunonutritional test tool based on serum albumin, total cholesterol, and lymphocyte counts. It has been studied as a simple prognostic predictor for various carcinomas. This study aimed to investigate the association between preoperative CONUT scores and the clinicopathological characteristics in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients.

Background: We aimed to investigate whether densitometry results and volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) can predict vertebral fragility fractures (VFF) in postmenopausal women.

Methods: We enrolled 271 postmenopausal women aged >45 years who visited our hospital for health check-ups between September 2016 and September 2017. The lumbar spine (LS) and femoral neck (FN) densitometry results and trabecular bone score (TBS) were calculated using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry.

Aims: To compare the efficacy and safety of adding low-dose lobeglitazone (0.25 mg/day) or standard-dose lobeglitazone (0.5 mg/day) to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with inadequate glucose control on metformin and dipeptidyl peptidase (DPP4) inhibitor therapy.

Combination therapy with liothyronine (LT3) and levothyroxine (LT4) is used in patients with persistent symptoms, despite being administered an adequate dose of LT4. LT3 may also be used in some thyroid cancer patients preparing for radioactive iodine therapy. However, there is a controversy regarding the safety of LT3 use, and there has been no definite evidence of long-term safety of LT3 therapy in Asian populations.

We evaluated the associations between metabolic parameters with visceral adipose tissue (VAT) volume in women with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and we compared the VAT volume with the VAT area. We enrolled women aged > 20 years with prediabetes or T2DM, who underwent oral glucose tolerance test and whose VAT was evaluated using computed tomography (CT) at our institution between 2017 and 2019. All participants underwent unenhanced spiral CT with a 3-mm slice thickness from the level of the diaphragm to the level of the mid-thigh.
