The purpose was to determine local (articular) and systemic effects of intra-articular interleukin-1 in horses supplemented with a dietary PUFA supplement [STRUCTURE-Joint ()]. Sixteen (16) healthy, mature, light breed horses were randomly assigned to diets containing 0 or 120 mL ( = 8 per group) of ST-J for 30 d. On days 0 (prior to beginning supplementation) and 27, recombinant equine interleukin-1β () (75 ng) was injected into the left or right intercarpal joint to induce mild, transient synovitis.

Article Synopsis
  • General practitioners (GPs) play a crucial role in managing patient care in Australia, especially for those with chronic diseases and after ICU admissions, but the frequency and reasons for their consultations with ICUs are unclear.
  • This study aimed to analyze ten years of ICU electronic medical records to determine how often and why ICU staff consult with GPs.
  • Results showed that only 1.02% of ICU admissions involved documented consultations with GPs, primarily initiated by junior medical staff seeking clinical information, with very few discussions on care goals or post-ICU care.
