Determinants of amikacin first peak concentration in critically ill patients.

Amikacin antimicrobial effect has been correlated with the ratio of the peak concentration (C ) to the minimum inhibitory concentration. A target C ≥ 60-80 mg/L has been suggested. It has been shown that such target is not achieved in a large proportion of critically ill patients in intensive care units.

Perioperative management of patients with coronary artery disease undergoing non-cardiac surgery: Summary from the French Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine 2017 convention.

This review summarises the specific stakes of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods of patients with coronary artery disease undergoing non-cardiac surgery. All practitioners involved in the perioperative management of such high cardiac risk patients should be aware of the modern concepts expected to decrease major adverse cardiac events and improve short- and long-term outcomes. A multidisciplinary approach via a functional heart team including anaesthesiologists, cardiologists and surgeons must be encouraged.

R wave in aVL lead: an outstanding ECG index in hypertension.

Objectives: The voltage of R wave in lead aVL (RaVL) seems to be more tightly correlated with left ventricular mass and cardiovascular events than any other ECG criterium of left ventricular hypertrophy. We hypothesized that RaVL could be an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular death in hypertensive individuals.

Methods: The baseline clinical and biological variables as well as ECG recordings were analyzed in a prospective cohort of 589 hypertensive individuals.
