Article Synopsis
  • * The case report discusses a patient with a CHA2DS2-VASc score of 1, facing a controversial decision about starting anticoagulant therapy due to this condition.
  • * The authors suggest that Cor triatriatum should be viewed as an additional risk factor for anticoagulant therapy, but stress the need for more research and individualized treatment strategies in similar cases.

Key Clinical Message: The key takeaway from this clinical scenario is to choose the most appropriate and reasonable treatment plan when dealing with a patient who has atrial septal defect (ASD) and concurrent atrial and mediastinal masses. In such cases, a heart-oncology team should make the therapeutic decision.

Abstract: Right atrial masses are not pretty rare and might be a diagnostic challenge.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the link between stent sizes and clinical outcomes in diabetic patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using drug-eluting stents (DES) and dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).
  • Out of 1630 patients, 29% had diabetes, but there was no significant difference in major adverse cardiac events (MACE) between diabetic and nondiabetic patients, despite stent size differences.
  • The findings suggest that diabetes did not affect MACE rates, and stent size was not significantly associated with outcomes in diabetics, emphasizing the importance of long-term DAPT and glycemic control post-PCI.

There are heterogeneous data regarding the impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HTN) on clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study explored the effect of history of DM (hDM) and HTN (hHTN), separately and in combination with each other, on major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in short-, mid-, and long-term intervals after PCI. Between 2000 and 2017, 1799 patients who had PCI were registered.
