This study introduces a fault diagnosis algorithm based on particle filtering for open-cycle liquid-propellant rocket engines (LPREs). The algorithm serves as a model-based method for the startup process, accounting for more than 30% of engine failures. Similar to the previous fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) algorithm for the startup process, the algorithm in this study is composed of a nonlinear filter to generate residuals, a residual analysis, and a multiple-model (MM) approach to detect and diagnose faults from the residuals.

We conducted regional scale CO2 simulations using the Weather Research and Forecasting model (WRF) coupled with the Vegetation Photosynthesis and Respiration Model (VPRM). We contrasted simulated concentrations with column, ground and aircraft observations during the Korea-United States Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) 2016 field campaign. Overall, WRF-VPRM slightly underestimates CO2 concentrations at ground and column monitoring sites, but it significantly underestimates at an inland tower measurement site, especially within the stable (nocturnal) boundary layer in nighttime.

RecQL4 has been shown to be involved in DNA replication and repair, but its role in DNA damage checkpoint pathway has not been reported. Here, we show that RecQL4 plays an important role in the activation of ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM)-dependent checkpoint pathway in human cells. Cells depleted with RecQL4 or Rothmund-Thomson syndrome cells showed significant impairment in the activation of ATM and the downstream effector proteins such as checkpoint kinase 2 and p53 after DNA damage.

Though RecQL4 was shown to be essential for the initiation of DNA replication in mammalian cells, its role in initiation is poorly understood. Here, we show that RecQL4 is required for the origin binding of Mcm10 and Ctf4, and their physical interactions and association with replication origins are controlled by the concerted action of both CDK and DDK activities. Although RecQL4-dependent binding of Mcm10 and Ctf4 to chromatin can occur in the absence of pre-replicative complex, their association with replication origins requires the presence of the pre-replicative complex and CDK and DDK activities.

Unlabelled: DNA-encapsulated silver nanodots are noteworthy candidates for bio-imaging probes, thanks to their excellent photophysical properties. The spectral shift of silver nanodot emitters from red to blue shows excellent correlations with the concentration of reactive oxygen species, which makes it possible to develop new types of probes for reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as hypochlorous acid (HOCl), given the outstanding stability of the blue in oxidizing environments. HOCl plays a role as a microbicide in immune systems but, on the other hand, is regarded as a disease contributor.

Though the G(1) checkpoint in mammalian cells has been known for decades, the molecular targets that prevent S-phase entry remain unknown. Mimosine is a rare plant amino acid that arrests the cell cycle in the G(1) phase before entry into S phase. Here, we show that mimosine interrupts the binding of Ctf4 to chromatin, which is essential for the initiation of DNA replication in HeLa cells, and this effect is mediated by the Hif-1α-dependent increase in the level of p27.

Background: Mating-type loci of mushroom fungi contain master regulatory genes that control recognition between compatible nuclei, maintenance of compatible nuclei as heterokaryons, and fruiting body development. Regions near mating-type loci in fungi often show adapted recombination, facilitating the generation of novel mating types and reducing the production of self-compatible mating types.
