Background: Lateral pelvic lymph node dissection (LPND) is a challenging procedure due to its technical difficulty and higher incidence of surgical morbidity. We compared short-term outcomes between laparoscopic and robotic LPND in patients with rectal cancer.
Methods: Between May 2006 and December 2014, prospectively collected data from consecutive patients undergoing robotic or laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME) with LPND were retrospectively compared.
A series of indolo[3,2-b]indole (IDID) derivatives are designed as a novel structural platform for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters. Intramolecular charge transfer (ICT)-type molecules consisting of IDID donor (D) and various acceptor (A) moieties are synthesized and characterized in the protocol of the systematical structure-property correlation. IDID derivatives exhibit high efficiency, prompt fluorescence as well as TADF with emission ranges tuned by the chemical structure of the acceptor units.

Methods: We analyzed 91 patients with severe acute CHB exacerbation treated with LAM (n=28), TDF (n=26), or ETV (n=37) for 10 years. The primary endpoint was overall mortality or liver transplantation (LT) by 48 weeks.
Sorafenib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that has been demonstrated to improve the overall survival time of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Although there have been a number of reports of patients achieving complete remission (CR) following sorafenib therapy, the long-term clinical outcomes of these patients have yet to be ascertained. A 72-year-old male patient with chronic hepatitis C, diabetes, hypertension and an old cerebral infarction was referred for the evaluation of a liver mass identified on an abdominal ultrasound.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTelomere length is associated with the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and recent studies have focused on the genetic alteration or polymorphism in telomere-maintaining genes. We examined the clinicopathologic and prognostic value of rs401681 polymorphism, located in the locus, in HCC. The relationship between rs401681 variants and telomere length was also analyzed in 156 HCC patients.

Materials And Methods: Patients who were treated with PCRT for LARC from 2015 January to 2016 December were retrospectively enrolled. Total doses of 45 Gy to 50.
Background: Antiviral treatment for hepatitis B virus (HBV) e antigen (HBeAg)-positive chronic HBV infection is still controversial. We assessed whether antiviral treatment reduces the risk of liver disease progression in these patients.
Methods: This study included consecutive patients in 8 large-volume hospitals in Korea who tested positive for HBeAg and had an HBV DNA level of >20000 IU/mL, an alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level of <40 IU/L, and no evidence of cirrhosis.
Lyso-thermosensitive liposomal doxorubicin (LTLD) consists of doxorubicin contained within a heat-sensitive liposome. When heated to ≥40°C, LTLD locally releases a high concentration of doxorubicin. We aimed to determine whether adding LTLD improves the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lesions with a maximum diameter () of 3 to 7 cm.

Objective: This study aimed to explore various factors that are highly related to local recurrence and to develop a new prediction model for local recurrence after curative resection.
Design: This is a retrospective cohort study SETTINGS:: This study was conducted at 2 academic hospitals in Japan and Korea.

Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. HCV infection causes acute hepatitis, and the majority of those infected progress to chronic hepatitis, and some of them develop cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Transmission of HCV is parenteral, and the major transmission routes include drug abuse, insecure injections or medical procedures, contaminated syringes or needles, sexual contact with an HCV-infected person, vertical infection of newborns by infected mothers, the transfusion of blood or blood products contaminated with viruses, and organ transplants.

This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic efficacy of serum cystatin C level in patients with cirrhotic ascites.
Methods: Patients with cirrhotic ascites from 15 hospitals were prospectively enrolled between September 2009 and March 2013.
Gamma ray irradiation causes immune suppressive responses by inducing oxidative stress such as reduction of cell viability and damages in immune cells. In this present study, we investigated whether Octopus ocellatus meet (OM) consisted of a plentiful taurine has protective effects against damages caused by oxidative stress in murine splenocytes. First of all, we prepared the aqueous extract from OM (OMA) and identified it contained a plentiful taurine content.

Inflammation can cause several diseases such as cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis and immune system reactions. Here, we investigated anti-inflammatory effects of Galactose-Taurine sodium salt (Gal-Tau), a newly synthesized taurine derivate in LPS-stimulated zebrafish embryos in vivo model.

In this present study, we first evaluated whether Xylose-Taurine reduced (X-T-R), a taurine derivate protects zebrafish embryos against oxidative stress caused by AAPH (2,2'-Azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride). First of all, we selected the concentration of X-T-R showing no toxicity in zebrafish embryos.

Hence, we investigated the hepatoprotective effects of X-T-R against HO-induced hepatocyte damage and apoptosis. The results showed that X-T-R led to the cytoprotective effect against HO-induced oxidative stress in cultured hepatocytes such as the improvement of cell viability and the reduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
