In this study, we investigated the effects of organic vegetable juice (OVJ) supplementation on modulating the microbial community, and how its consumption ameliorated blood-lipid profiles in diet-induced obese mice. Here, we studied the alleviating effect of hyperlipidemia via animal experiments using diet-induced obese mice and analyzed the effect of OVJ on the microbial community in continuous colon simulation system. OVJ consumption did not have a significant effect on weight loss but helped reduce the weight of the epididymis fat tissue and adipocytes.

Despite increasing research on the gut-skin axis, there is a lack of comprehensive studies on the improvement of skin health through the regulation of the intestinal condition in humans. In this study, we investigated the benefits of Lactobacillus plantarum HY7714 (HY7714) consumption on skin health through its modulatory effects on the intestine and ensuing immune responses. We report a case of Brown-Sequard syndrome (BSS) caused by an accidental stab injury of the cervical spine that shows clear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and clinical presentation. A 42-year-old woman was brought into the emergency department after a stab injury on the right side of the posterior neck from a knife that was lying in a fruit basket after slipping. The patient complained of hemiparesis of the right-side extremities, and ipsilateral hypoesthesia and contralateral sensory loss of pain and temperature were also found on neurological examination.

In this study, we analyzed the whcA gene from Corynebacterium glutamicum, which codes for a homologue of the WhiB-family of proteins. Deletion of the gene did not affect the growth of the mutant cells, indicating that the whcA gene was not essential under ordinary growth conditions. However, cells overexpressing the protein not only showed retarded growth as compared with the wild-type or the DeltawhcA mutant cells but also showed increased sensitivity to a variety of oxidants, such as diamide, menadione, and hydrogen peroxide.

In this study, we demonstrate that sigma(E), an alternative sigma factor of Corynebacterium glutamicum, is involved in cell surface stresses. Cells in which the sigE gene was deleted evidenced increased sensitivity to magnesium deficiency, as well as to SDS, lysozymes, EDTA and heat.
