Background: Radiotherapy is the primary treatment modality for most head and neck cancers (HNCs). Despite the addition of chemotherapy to radiotherapy to enhance its tumoricidal effects, almost a third of HNC patients suffer from locoregional relapses. Salvage therapy options for such recurrences are limited and often suboptimal, partly owing to divergent tumor and microenvironmental factors underpinning radioresistance.

To study the intrinsic factors that are associated with cancer radioresistance, we established 4 radioresistant prostate (22Rv1 and DU145) and head and neck cancer (FaDu and HK1) models by irradiating their wild-type parentals to 90 Gy, mimicking the fractionated radiotherapy schema that is often using in the clinic, and performed whole exome and transcriptome sequencing of the radioresistant and wild-type models. Comparative genomic analyses detected the enrichment of mismatch repair mutational signatures (SBS6, 14, 15, 20) across all the cell lines and several non-synonymous single nucleotide variants involved in pro-survival pathways.

This study evaluated the outcomes of a protocol-based venoarterial (VA) ECMO program following congenital heart surgeries.
Methods And Results: This was a retrospective review of 198 patients who underwent VA-ECMO after congenital cardiac surgeries at our institute between 2004 and 2023.
Peritoneal metastasis (PM), the regional progression of intra-abdominal malignancies, is a common sequelae of colorectal cancer (CRC). Immunotherapy is slated to be effective in generating long-lasting anti-tumour response as it utilizes the specificity and memory of the immune system. In the tumour microenvironment, tumour associated macrophages (TAMs) are posited to create an anti-inflammatory pro-tumorigenic environment.

The objective of this study is to compare the immediate Intensive Care Unit (ICU) outcomes of PDA stent versus BT shunt in infants with ductal-dependent pulmonary circulation. This is a single center, retrospective study in infants less than 6 months with ductal-dependent pulmonary circulation palliated with either PDA stenting or BT shunt from January 2015 till December 2023.

Methods: We performed deep sequencing analyses to characterize the genomic and transcriptomic landscapes of field change in two patients with synchronous aerodigestive tract tumors.
Results: Our data support the emergence of numerous genetic alterations in cancer-associated genes but refutes the hypothesis that founder mutation(s) underpin this phenomenon.

Goal: The long-term goal of our research is to develop safe and effective soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitors. The objective of this study is to evaluate the potency and selectivity of six natural isothiocyanates (ITCs) as sEH inhibitors.
Methods: Molecular docking was used to model likely interactions between the ligands and receptors.
Hexanucleotide repeat expansions (HREs) in the chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9orf72) gene are the most frequent genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Both are debilitating neurodegenerative conditions affecting either motor neurons (ALS) in the brain and spinal cord or neurons in the frontal and/or temporal cortical lobes (FTD). HREs undergo repeat-associated non-ATG (RAN) translation on both sense and anti-sense strands, generating five distinct dipeptide repeat proteins (DPRs), poly-GA, -GR, -GP, -PA and -PR.

The most widely recognized variants in literature are frontal, callosal, and posterior AHS. AHS due to the corpus callosum lesion can occur alone or as part of callosal disconnection syndrome (CDS).

It contains data from 10,821 participants from Grades 6-10 (in Wave 1) in Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Portugal. The data was collected between Spring 2021 and Spring 2023, the participants were recruited through schools, where the data collection also took place, except for online data collections due to restrictions caused by COVID-19.

We aimed to determine if the addition of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) could offer superior local recurrence-free survival in patients with retroperitoneal sarcoma at high risk of developing PS as opposed to extended resection alone.
Methods: This is a single arm, phase II intervention study where all patients with recurrent localized retroperitoneal sarcoma considered at high risk of developing PS were considered for enrolment (ClinicalTrials.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading global cause of cancer-related mortality. Despite the widespread adoption of sorafenib as the standard HCC treatment, its efficacy is constrained, frequently encountering resistance. To augment the effectiveness of sorafenib, this study investigated the synergy of sorafenib and vinorelbine using 22 HCC patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models.

The infratemporal fossa (ITF) is an area surrounded by bony structures and contains vital organs. Although a large abscess in the ITF is not common, it requires prompt surgical management. Recently, the authors had a patient who presented with fever, pain, and trismus.

The mammalian target of rapamycin/sirolimus (mTOR) and microtubules are prominent druggable targets for HCC. In this study, we demonstrated that co-targeting mTOR using mTOR inhibitors (everolimus and sirolimus) along with the microtubule inhibitor vinorelbine yielded results superior to those of the monotherapies in HCC PDX models.

There is evidence that HIPEC using high intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) results in increased tissue penetration, although its safety profile remains relatively unknown. We thus aim to evaluate differences in intra- and post-operative outcomes in patients undergoing CRS-HIPEC with different levels of IAP.

To ensure R0 margins, resection of adherent or adjacent organs is often required. However, it is still unclear if R0 margins confer any additional benefit to patients over a grossly negative but microscopically positive (R1) margin.
