"Polarized glasses dissociation test" for detection of suppression in intermittent exotropia.

Detecting suppression is important for monitoring change in and determining surgical timing for intermittent exotropia. Here, we evaluate the results of a prospective, cross-sectional study of the "polarized glasses dissociation test" for detection of suppression. A positive result was defined as constant deviation of one eye at 6 m when viewing at distance with polarized glasses.

Novel Bronchoscopy Method for Molecular Profiling of Lung Cancer: Targeted Washing Technique.

Purpose: There have been efforts to find alternative samples other than standard samples of tissue or plasma for mutational analyses for lung cancer patients. However, no other sample or technique has replaced the mutational analyses using standard samples. In this prospective study, we assessed a novel bronchoscopy method, named as targeted washing technique, for detecting the EGFR mutation.

Acral Melanoma: A Review of Its Pathogenesis, Progression, and Management.

Acral melanoma is a distinct subtype of cutaneous malignant melanoma that uniquely occurs on ultraviolet (UV)-shielded, glabrous skin of the palms, soles, and nail beds. While acral melanoma only accounts for 2-3% of all melanomas, it represents the most common subtype among darker-skinned, non-Caucasian individuals. Unlike other cutaneous melanomas, acral melanoma does not arise from UV radiation exposure and is accordingly associated with a relatively low tumor mutational burden.

Peptide mapping analysis of synthetic semaglutide and liraglutide for generic development of drugs originating from recombinant DNA technology.

Semaglutide and liraglutide are long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists used to treat type-2 diabetes and obesity. Recent advances in peptide synthesis and analytical technologies have enabled the development of synthetic generic peptide for reference listed drugs (RLD) originating from recombinant DNA (rDNA) technology. Since the original semaglutide and liraglutide were produced through rDNA technology, there has been great interest in developing their synthetic peptides as generic versions of the original drugs.

Background: To investigate prenatal ultrasound findings and the chromosomal outcomes of mosaic embryo transfer.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on pregnant women who underwent mosaic embryo transfer following blastocyst-stage preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) at CHA Gangnam Medical Center from January 2021 to July 2024. Trophectoderm biopsy specimens were collected using standard protocols, and next-generation sequencing profiles were defined as mosaics when displaying copy number counts in the 20-80% range.

Prevalence of Vancomycin-Variable Enterococci from the Bloodstream in the Korea Global Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance System, 2017-2022.

Vancomycin-variable enterococci (VVE), though genetically containing genes, are phenotypically sensitive to vancomycin. If VVE is undetected or does not grow on the vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) selection medium, or both, it can acquire resistance upon exposure to vancomycin. This characteristic is clinically important for the treatment and prevention of VRE.

Survivorship concerns among posttreatment cancer survivors in South Korea: A secondary analysis of a cross-sectional survey.

Background: Cancer survivors may have a variety of survivorship concerns despite their cancer treatment having ended, with some negatively affecting their health-related quality of life. An in-depth understanding of survivorship concerns is essential for the development of survivorship care programs. However, previous findings have been limited to Western countries, and evidence from Asian countries is lacking.

Enhancing the Survival of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia: Quality Improvement Initiative With a Multidisciplinary Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Team Approach.

Background: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is the only treatment option that can stabilize patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) with severe pulmonary hypertension. This study assessed the effects of a multidisciplinary ECMO team approach (META) as part of a quality improvement initiative aimed at enhancing the survival rates of neonates with CDH.

Methods: The medical records of infants with CDH treated at a tertiary center were retrospectively reviewed.

The role of local ablative therapy in patients with advanced invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung.

Purpose: Invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA) of the lungs is a rare subtype of lung adenocarcinoma with a limited understanding of its prognosis, particularly in advanced stages. This study aimed to assess the prognosis of patients with advanced IMA by focusing on treatment modalities.

Methods: This single-center retrospective study evaluated 33 patients with IMAs diagnosed with advanced-stage disease or disease progression after curative treatment between 2011 and 2021.

We performed WGS on 79 . isolates, comprising 31 isolates from three premature infants with persistent bloodstream infection despite antifungal treatment in the same neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in 2022 and 48 (27 fluconazole-resistant and 21 fluconazole-susceptible dose-dependent) bloodstream isolates from 48 patients in 15 South Korean hospitals from 2010 to 2022.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) function to extensively suppress various problematic factors and are considered a new alternative for improving livestock health and enhancing immunomodulation. In this study, we explored whether AMP regulation has positive influences on Ochratoxin A (OTA) exposure using a porcine intestinal epithelial cell line (IPEC-J2 cells). We constructed a beta-defensin 1 (DEFB1) expression vector and used it to transfection IPEC-J2 cells to construct AMP overexpression cell lines.

Purpose: The use of neoadjuvant anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has not been extensively explored. The current case report highlights the notable pathological complete response (pCR) achieved following neoadjuvant brigatinib therapy in a patient with stage IIIA ALK-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Self-Management Using eHealth Technologies for Liver Transplant Recipients: Scoping Review.

Background: Liver transplantation has become increasingly common as a last-resort treatment for end-stage liver diseases and liver cancer, with continually improving success rates and long-term survival rates. Nevertheless, liver transplant recipients face lifelong challenges in self-management, including immunosuppressant therapy, lifestyle adjustments, and navigating complex health care systems. eHealth technologies hold the potential to aid and optimize self-management outcomes, but their adoption has been slow in this population due to the complexity of post-liver transplant management.
