Adipose tissue-derived stromal cells (ASCs) play an important role in various therapeutic approaches to bone regeneration. However, such applications become challenging when the obtained cells show a functional disorder, e.g.

Since the very beginning of coronary artery bypass grafting, the search for optimal myocardial protection has fascinated both clinicians and basic researchers. This retrospective review of a large patient cohort aims to display the advantages of one of the protective procedures, namely simple, intermittent aortic cross-clamping (IAC). Thus, this review aims to significantly contribute to daily bypass surgery.

The leaner mouse exhibits excessive, abnormal cerebellar granule cell and Purkinje cell death during postnatal development, which is a consequence of a mutated calcium ion channel subunit, alpha(1A). Previous studies have shown that leaner cerebellar Purkinje cells die in a specific pattern that appears to be influenced by functional and anatomical boundaries of the cerebellum.

This study investigated the distal part of the vessel, the region of anastomosis by means of histology to focus the visualization of this region of interest. The histological examination of arterial segments showed minor intimal thickening in 48 out of 100 patients.

To avoid implantation of foreign material in an infected area and to circumvent anticoagulation, tricuspid valve repair was applied and the results assessed.
Methods: Tricuspid valve repair was performed in five patients with right-sided endocarditis.

Because of its better long term patency the internal thoracic artery has become the conduit of choice for myocardial revascularization. Thirty healthy young volunteers were investigated to prove the suitability of the duplex system for investigating the internal thoracic artery. The mean systolic peak flow velocity was 1.

Ultrasonic duplex scanning was used to examine 211 internal thoracic arteries. The investigating vessels were classified as normal, abnormal, and occluded. The results of the duplex examination were compared with angiography as the reference method.

Use of the internal thoracic artery for myocardial revascularization has regained general acceptance because it offers better long-term results than do venous conduits. The aim of this study was to ascertain the prevalence of atherosclerosis in the internal thoracic artery and to correlate the prevalence with other known risk factors. A total of 117 patients (male/female ratio 84:33; mean age 56.

Few data exist on the operative mortality and infarction rate in coronary artery bypass surgery when using this type of graft in high-risk groups, such as patients with left main stenosis. In 19 months, we studied 81 consecutive patients with left main stenosis who received a mammary artery graft to the left anterior descending artery as well as vein grafts to other vessels and found no excessive mortality or infarction rate.

We studied 36 patients (37 internal mammary artery grafts) with combined two-dimensional and pulsed Doppler echography from the supraclavicular fossa. Adequate visualization and Doppler signals were obtained in 95% of arterial grafts.

Four of the 6 patients in our study were subjected to a follow-up examination as out-patients. After preliminary remarks on the anatomical and biomechanical peculiarities of the sternoclavicular joint, the various types of luxation and the customary Allmann I-III classification for degree of severity are discussed.

We studied 47 consecutive patients and found no atherosclerotic changes. Intraoperatively, however, 4 left internal mammary arteries were judged unsuitable for grafting.

The consideration of the special kinesiology of the shoulder helps to understand the shoulder pathology. This mainly applies to young "overhead athletes" like swimmers, handball-, basketball-, volleyball-, and racketplayers.

During the past various factors were quoted to be causative of a degeneration of the rotator cuff. In this study 122 shoulder specimen, aged 58-95 years, were dissected. A high correlation between severe degeneration of the ac-joint and rupture of the rotator cuff was found.

The etiology of this disorder is still unclarified. In addition to a swelling that is generally only slightly tender to pressure, the most important symptom is usually a long-standing, intermittent, dull pain in the upper sternum, the claviculae and the adjacent uppermost ribs.

Articular changes in Chron's disease represent extraintestinal organic manifestations which generally take the form of so-called enteropathic synovitis. Articular alterations - diagnosed as non-specific arthritis in the great majority of cases--may precede the intestinal disease. In very rare cases it can be shown that the joints display histological changes typical of Morbus Crohn.

Eight fresh shoulder specimen were dissected and the functional relationship of the rotator cuff tendons to the acromion was demonstrated through various arcs of shoulder motion. The scapula was fixed and the arm was elevated, rotated, and abducted by pulling the muscle tendon according to EMG activities. Using FUJI compression films the subacromial compression of the rotator cuff was measured.
