Background: Pit pattern diagnosis using crystal violet staining for colorectal tumors is useful for qualitative and depth diagnosis. However, due to its reported carcinogenic potential, the use of crystal violet has been restricted. This study was aimed at investigating the efficacy of texture and color enhancement imaging (TXI) magnification in pit pattern diagnosis.

Enhancement of Image Quality in Low-Field Knee MR Imaging Using Deep Learning.

Purpose:  The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential of deep learning (DL) techniques to enhance the image quality of low-field knee MR images, with the ultimate goal of approximating the standards of high-field knee MR imaging.

Methods: We analyzed knee MR images collected from 45 patients with knee disorders and six normal subjects using a 3T MR scanner and those collected from 25 patients with knee disorders using a 0.4T MR scanner.

Introduction: The use of anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) in degenerative dementia (DD) remains uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the association of early AED administration with subsequent DD occurrence.

Methods: Using a large nationwide database, we enrolled patients newly diagnosed with epilepsy from 2014 to 2019 ( = 104,225), and using propensity score matching, we divided them into treatment (those prescribed AEDs in 2014) and control groups.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the utility of intensive triamcinolone acetonide (TA) injections after extensive esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).

Methods: This retrospective study included 27 lesions in 27 consecutive patients who underwent ESD (ulcers encompassing ≥3/4 of the esophageal circumference) and received TA injections without oral steroid administration. Groups A and B included patients undergoing ESD with and without complete circumferential resection, respectively.

A prediction model of abnormal acid reflux in gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Background And Aim: The measurement of esophageal acid exposure time (AET) using combined multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) tests is the gold standard for diagnosing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, this catheter-based 24-h test can cause considerable patient discomfort. Our aim is to identify factors affecting AET and to develop a scoring model for predicting AET abnormalities before conducting the MII-pH test.

Background: Vonoprazan, a potassium-competitive acid blocker, demonstrates more potent acid inhibition than proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). This study aimed to evaluate the effect of vonoprazan in patients with unproven gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by comparing patients with vonoprazan-refractory heartburn with those with PPI-refractory heartburn.

Methods: This study included 104 consecutive patients with vonoprazan- or PPI-refractory heartburn (52 patients each), no erosive esophagitis on endoscopy and who underwent combined multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) testing with vonoprazan/PPI discontinuation.

Rapid and long-lasting efficacy of high-dose ambroxol therapy for neuronopathic Gaucher disease: A case report and literature review.

Gaucher disease (GD) is a lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency in the GBA1-encoded enzyme, β-glucocerebrosidase. Enzyme replacement therapy is ineffective for neuronopathic Gaucher disease (nGD). High-dose ambroxol has been administered as an alternative treatment for a group of patients with nGD.

Extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) with poor prognosis, particularly in relapsed or refractory patients. Thus, timely detection of relapse and appropriate disease management are crucial. We present two patients with ENKTL, wherein positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) with total-body coverage after induction therapy, detected newly relapsed regions in the bone marrow of the lower leg prior to progression.

Characteristics of factors contributing to follow-up for suspected delayed bleeding after colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Background And Aims: Delayed bleeding (DB) is a major adverse event associated with colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) that sometimes causes difficulties in making decisions regarding endoscopic hemostasis. This study identified the factors that contribute to follow-up without endoscopic hemostasis when DB is suspected after colorectal ESD.

Methods: In total, 583 patients (603 tumors) who underwent ESD or hybrid ESD for colorectal tumors at Chiba University Hospital between June 2009 and January 2022 were retrospectively registered.

Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FHLH) is a fatal hyperinflammation syndrome arising from the genetic defect of perforin-mediated cytolysis. Curative hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is needed before development of central nervous system (CNS) disease. We studied treatment outcomes of 13 patients (FHLH2 n = 11, FHLH3 n = 2) consecutively diagnosed from 2011 to 2022 by flow cytometric screening for non-myeloablative HCT in a regional treatment network in Kyushu, Japan.

Autocrine Regulation of Interleukin-6 via the Activation of STAT3 and Akt in Cardiac Myxoma Cells.

Plasma concentrations of a pleiotropic cytokine, interleukin (IL)-6, are increased in patients with cardiac myxoma. We investigated the regulation of IL-6 in cardiac myxoma. Immunohistochemical staining and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) revealed that IL-6 and its receptors, IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) and gp130, co-existed in the myxoma cells.

Differences in Mucosal Permeability Among Patients With Ulcerative Colitis Classified Based on the Colonic Location and Disease Activity.

Introduction: Factors affecting mucosal permeability (MP) in ulcerative colitis (UC) are largely unknown. We aimed to investigate the difference in MP among patients with UC classified according to the colonic locations and to evaluate the correlations between local MP and endoscopic or histological activity of UC.
