Background: Remote work allows one to work free from workplace policy, but it may negatively affect health-related behaviors such as tobacco product use and alcohol drinking. Our study aimed to investigate the association of remote work with tobacco dependence and hazardous alcohol use.
Methods: This nationwide Internet-based survey was conducted in Japan in February 2023.
Background And Objectives: Because deaths from opioid overdoses have increased in the United States, family physicians are needed who can provide integrated care for a patient with HIV, hepatitis C, and opioid use disorder. We sought to describe the individual and residency characteristics of graduating family medicine residents who intend to practice such integrated care.
Methods: We used 2017-2021 data from the American Board of Family Medicine Initial Certification Questionnaire.
Programs allowing access to investigational drugs and off-label drug use for serious diseases have often been applied to pediatric cancers. A clinical study conducted under the Japanese "Patient-Proposed Healthcare Services" evaluated the efficacy and safety of dabrafenib plus trametinib in children with BRAF V600 mutant glioma (jRCTs071210071). This study successfully provided unapproved and off-label medications to four enrolled patients, two with low-grade glioma and two with high-grade glioma (median age: 10.

Methods: Recurrent/relapsed endometrial cancer was diagnosed in 155 women at our hospital between January 26, 1999 and February 26, 2019. Fifty of these women received paclitaxel-carboplatin, two received doxorubicin-cisplatin, and one received docetaxel-carboplatin as postoperative chemotherapy.
Background: In cell-free and concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART), filtration membrane obstruction during the ascites processing step is an important clinical problem. A novel membrane designed polyether sulfone filter (n-PES) was developed to reduce filter membrane obstruction. However, no clinical studies have compared the performance of n-PES filters with that of conventional filters.

We focused on the carpometacarpal joint space width (CMC-JSW) and examined the features of this fracture on versatile anteroposterior hand X-ray images, initially taken for hand trauma cases.
Methods: Ten patients (nine males and one female; mean age, 34 years) diagnosed with a hamate body fracture on CT in our facility between January 2013 and October 2023 were included in this study.
Melatonin plays a major role in regulating the sleep-wake cycle and enhancing testosterone production. We investigated the short-term effects of melatonin treatment for 14 consecutive days in the cryptorchidism model. We categorized experimental mice into Sham (S), Orchiopexy (O), Melatonin (Mel), and Orchiopexy + Melatonin (OMel) groups.

Lysosome-associated membrane protein-2 (LAMP2) deficiency causes the human Danon disease and represents a lysosomal dysfunction because of its pivotal role in regulating autophagy and lysosome biogenesis. LAMP2-deficient mice exhibit a spectrum of phenotypes, including cardioskeletal myopathy, mental retardation, and retinopathy, similar to those observed in patients with Danon disease. Its pathology is thought to involve altered energy metabolism and lipid dysregulation; however, the lipidomic profiles of LAMP2-deficient animals have not been investigated.

We describe two cases wherein non-PV foci were induced by mechanical irritation and conventional induction in the same area, which was impossible to induce after ablation, suggesting a relationship between mechanical irritation and induction of non-PV foci. In a recurrent case of non-PV foci, atrial fibrillation (AF) was induced only by mechanical irritation.

Design: Prospective observational study.
Participants: Forty-eight eyes of 48 patients with RP in Kyushu University Hospital who underwent microperimetry-3 (MP-3) and Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) 10-2 testing ≥3 times during ≥2 years were included.
Background And Objectives: Medical schools and family medicine organizations have been working on advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism (DEIA). Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) faculty members are disproportionately expected to lead DEIA initiatives, negatively affecting academic promotion and well-being. Our study aimed to describe the existing DEIA initiatives, strategies, and barriers to implementing support for DEIA work, as well as the implications of addressing the minority tax in US and Canadian family medicine departments.

Purpose: To investigate the profiles and correlations between local and systemic inflammatory molecules in patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
Methods: The paired samples of aqueous humor and serum were collected from 36 eyes of 36 typical patients with RP and 25 eyes of age-matched patients with cataracts. The concentration of cytokines/chemokines was evaluated by a multiplexed immunoarray (Q-Plex).
Purpose: Proliferative retinal changes may occur postsurgery for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), possibly preceding recurrent detachment. This study aims to establish the groundwork for an imaging system capable of discerning changes in retinal vessel tortuosity after RRD repair, analyzing widefield optical coherence tomography angiography (WF-OCTA) images.
Methods: Eighty-eight eyes of 86 patients with RRD who underwent surgical procedures and had repeated imaging with clear widefield optical coherence tomography (WF-OCT) and WF-OCTA on different postoperative days were enrolled in this retrospective study.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare the treatment outcomes of patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) who initially received faricimab or aflibercept treatment using propensity score matching (PSM) to align patient backgrounds.
Methods: Patients with treatment-naïve nAMD who received either faricimab or aflibercept for three consecutive monthly injections as the loading phase were enrolled in this study. In the 1:1 PSM, sex, age, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central macular thickness (CMT), central choroidal thickness (CCT), and AMD subtypes in the pre-treatment state were selected as covariates.
