Atypical Presentation of Herpes Stromal Keratitis in a Contact Lens Wearer.

This article describes the case of a 21-year-old female habitual contact lens wearer who complained of left eye pain, redness, and decreased vision for one week. When a ring-shaped corneal infiltration indicative of an Acanthamoeba infection was discovered, standard anti-amoebic topical therapy with polyhexamethylene biguanide and chlorhexidine was commenced. However, her keratitis worsened.

A Rare Complication of Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus (HZO).

Retrobulbar optic neuritis is a rare complication of herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO). We report a case of a 27-year-old man who presented with a progressive left blurring of vision for one week. A history of vesicular rashes in the left trigeminal nerve area preceded his condition.

A Unique Case of Unilateral Oculomotor Nerve Palsy Secondary to Dengue Fever.

A wide range of ocular complications may arise from the mosquito-borne illness, dengue fever. We report a case of isolated unilateral oculomotor nerve palsy due to complications of dengue fever. A 50-year-old male with serologically confirmed dengue fever presented with a sudden onset of double vision with left eyelid drooping and left eye outward deviation on his day 8 of illness.

Orbital Apex Syndrome Secondary to Huge Primary Ethmoidal Sinus Mucocele: A Case Report.

Ethmoidal sinus mucoceles are benign expansile lesions that may progressively invade the orbit causing optic nerve compression and its nearby structures. We report a rare case of primary ethmoidal sinus mucocele instigating orbital apex syndrome. A 40-year-old man presented with right eye (RE) progressive blurring of vision with diplopia for 2 weeks.

Extensive Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis Post COVID-19 Vaccination.

Extensive cerebral sinus thrombosis following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination is rare. We report the case of a 42-year-old man who presented with a severe generalized headache that was not relieved by analgesics for nine days. It started four days after he received the third dose of BNT162b2 (BioNTech/Pfizer).

Right Trochlear Nerve Palsy as an Uncommon Manifestation of Arachnoid Cyst.

The majority of arachnoid cysts are congenital intracranial lesions that develop in the early embryonic stages as a result of a slight irregularity in the cerebrospinal fluid's (CSF) passage through the embryonic mesenchyme. Most of the time, these cysts are asymptomatic all throughout life. Diplopia caused by an arachnoid cyst is extremely rare.

Bilateral Serous Retinal Detachment in Pregnancy.

Serous retinal detachment is a rare complication of pregnancy. A 30-year-old primigravida with preeclampsia presented with bilateral blurring of vision and metamorphopsia for a one-week duration. She was referred by the Obstetrics and Gynecology department for visual assessment.

Opportunistic Eye Screening Among First-Degree Relatives of Glaucoma Patients at a Suburban Tertiary Center in Malaysia.

Background and objective The majority of glaucoma patients are asymptomatic and are usually diagnosed at an advanced stage of the disease. This study aimed to assess the outcomes of glaucoma screening among known first-degree relatives of primary glaucoma patients. Materials and methods This study involved primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG), primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), and juvenile open-angle glaucoma (JOAG) patients who attended the glaucoma clinic at the Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia between January 2014 and December 2015.

Corticosteroid Therapy in Optic Neuropathy Secondary to Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a tumor arising from the epithelial cells of the nasopharynx. NPC can spread and invade the base of skull, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, pterygopalatine fossa, and apex of the orbit. However, the involvement of the optic nerve in NPC is rare.

Clinical characteristics and outcomes of paediatric orbital cellulitis in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia: a five-year review.

Introduction: Limited data is available on paediatric orbital cellulitis in Asia. We aimed to describe demographic data, clinical presentation, predisposing factors, identified microorganisms, choice of antibiotics and management in children with orbital cellulitis treated in a tertiary care centre in Malaysia.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed on children with orbital cellulitis aged below 18 years who were admitted to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, Malaysia, between January 2013 and December 2017.

Extensive Forehead Swelling Including the Periorbital Area in a Child: A Rare Manifestation of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) manifestations in a child are varied. We report a unique and rare presentation of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in a child who presented with frontal swelling involving bilateral upper lids. A previously healthy one-year-old girl presented with progressively increasing frontal swelling of seven months duration.

Olanzapine-induced Cataract in a Teenage Girl.

Cataract, defined as cloudiness of the lens, is a common adverse effect of first-generation antipsychotic medications. Newer generation antipsychotics, also known as atypical antipsychotics, are less commonly associated with cataract. A 19-year-old girl with underlying schizophrenia on olanzapine for the past two years complained of gradual blurring of vision in both eyes for four months prior to presentation.

Non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy secondary to menorrhagia in a young healthy woman.

Non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION) may develop due to severe anaemia and hypotension which is seen in acute blood loss. The devastating visual loss is often irreversible. We report a case of NAION in a 20-year-old healthy woman, who presented on the third day of a heavy menstrual cycle with hypovolaemic shock.

Rapid anterior capsular contraction after phacoemulsification surgery in a patient with retinitis pigmentosa.

A decrease in the anterior capsule opening after cataract surgery has been observed in eyes with weakened lens zonules. It commonly occurs in diabetes mellitus, uveitis, pseudoexfoliation syndrome, high myopia, and elderly patients. Herein, we report the case of a middle-aged man with advanced retinitis pigmentosa who developed a rapid contraction of the anterior capsule after an uneventful phacoemulsification surgery that resulted in severe visual loss during the early postoperative period.

Intravitreal ranibizumab in treating extensive traumatic submacular hemorrhage.

Herein, we report our experience in treating extensive traumatic submacular hemorrhage with a single dose of intravitreal ranibizumab. A 23-year-old healthy Malay man presented with a progressive reduction of central vision in the left eye of 2 days' duration following a history of blunt trauma. Visual acuity was reduced to counting fingers.

Spontaneous bilateral anterior lens dislocation in an 8-year-old girl.

The authors describe recurrent lens dislocation into the anterior chamber in a young girl with homocystinuria. The patient's 12-year-old sister died after a cerebrovascular accident caused by the same disease. This report highlights the importance of early dietary restrictions and treatment.
