Epidemiology of hypertension in Serbia: results of a National Survey.

Background: We evaluated the prevalence of high blood pressure and the level of awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension in a Serbian population.

Methods: A cross-sectional study of an adult population was carried out across Serbia in 2006. The study involved 14 204 adults aged 20 years or older.

Automatic detection and characterization of funnel chest based on spiral CT.

Funnel chest (Pectus excavatum) is the most common deformity of the anterior chest in children. Present paper describes a method to process and classify CT slices representing funnel chest deformities. A manually chosen CT slice was processed to detect the inner curvature of the chest for characterization.

Association between obesity and socioeconomic factors and lifestyle.

Background/aim: The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing at an alarming rate and it is a manifestation of the epidemics of a sedentary lifestyle and excessive energy intake. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the population of the Province of Vojvodina, Serbia, and to examine the association between obesity and socioeconomic and lifestyle factors.

Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted in the Province of Vojvodina in 2006 involved 3 854 participants aged 20 years and over (1 831 men and 2 023 women).
