In this study, we analysed the possible influence of the c.419-43delT BMPR2 variant in patients with Graves' disease (GD), in a molecular basis, focusing our efforts on possible alterations in the mRNA processing and synthesis. The molecular assessment of this variant in patients with GD would shed light on the association between the BMPR2 gene and the disease.

Method: Survey study carried out with 162 children students from a public school in the city of São Paulo, SP, Brazil. Data collection was obtained by means of a form with anthropometric data and about dietary habits.
Background: In Western countries type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly from cardiovascular causes. Since a family history of diabetes, even in non-diabetic subjects, is regarded as an increased risk of coronary heart disease, the use of approved surrogate markers of early atherosclerosis, specially of ultrasonic measurements of the carotid arteries, is of vital importance.
Objective: To analyze the structural properties (intima-media thickness) and functional properties (distensibility measurement) of the carotid arteries in subjects with (FH+) a family history of type 2 diabetes, in comparison to subjects without (FH-) a family history of type 2 diabetes, both groups with no known cardiovascular risk factors.
Improving family and community practices is one of the components of the strategy Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI). Considering that In Brazil, IMCI is being implemented in the context of Family Health Program (PSF), the objective of this study was to identify maternal knowledge in relation to care provided to child with respiratory disease or diarrhea in two health units with different assistance models, with PSF and without PSF The results showed that the level of maternal/familiar knowledge were similar in both assistance models. Under a scientific point of view, the mothers/families showed overshot knowledge in relation to care provided to child with diarrhea.
