To control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, healthcare systems have focused on ramping up their capacity for epidemiological surveillance through viral whole genome sequencing. In this paper, we tested the performance of two protocols of SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid enrichment, an amplicon enrichment using different versions of the ARTIC primer panel and a hybrid-capture method using KAPA RNA Hypercap. We focused on the challenge of the Omicron variant sequencing, the advantages of automated library preparation and the influence of the bioinformatic analysis in the final consensus sequence.

Acquired immune resistance (AIR) describes a situation in which cancer patients who initially responded clinically to immunotherapies, after a certain period of time, progress with their disease. Considering that AIR represents a feedback response of the tumor against the immune attack generated during the course of immunotherapies, it is conceivable that AIR may also occur before treatment initiation as a mechanism to escape endogenous adaptive antitumor immunity (EAAI). In the present study, we assessed the EAAI in paraffin-embedded breast primary tumor tissue samples and drew correlations with the clinical outcomes.

However, tools for monitoring LAB distribution and persistence at the mucosal surfaces are needed. Here, we characterize Lactiplantibacillus plantarum bacteria expressing the infrared fluorescent protein IRFP713 for exploring their in vivo distribution in the mucosa and potential use as a mucosal vaccine vector.

Methods: Since the HARMONY stakeholders identified the inclusion of patients' points of view on evaluating VFs as a priority, surveys were conducted with the patient organizations active in HMs and part of the HARMONY network, together with key opinion leaders, pharmaceutical companies, and regulators, to establish which outcomes were important for each HM. Next, to evaluate VFs against the sources of information taken into account (randomized clinical trials, registries, real-world data), structured questionnaires were created and filled by HARMONY health professionals to specify preferred data sources per malignancy.
Despite the effectiveness of plasma exchange (PEX) and immunosuppressants in the treatment of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP), a number of patients still die as a result of the disease. Whether caplacizumab could rescue these patients remains still unsettled. The objective of this study was to characterise mortality patterns and prognostic factors in the first episode of aTTP.

Experts from 18 countries were invited to contribute to this article to provide the best available data on the number, types, and quality of densitometry, DXA experts, the local/national incidence and prevalence of osteoporosis and fragility fractures, and other uses and information on the challenges and opportunities for quality densitometry with examples of local initiatives. Osteoporosis is the primary reason for densitometry in our region, which is not a priority for public health in most countries.

After dozens of clinical studies, only Dendreon's dendritic cell vaccine Sipuleucel-T has succeeded in receiving US FDA approval for the treatment of metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer. Although scientists working on cancer immunotherapy feel that this is an essential breakthrough for the field, they still expect that new vaccine regimens will yield better clinical benefits compared to the four months prolonged median overall survival (OS) Sipuleucel-T demonstrated in the IMPACT phase III clinical trial.

Herein, we investigated the prognostic relevance of the most frequently expressed HLA-A alleles in Greece (A*02:01 and HLA-A*24:02) in de novo metastatic hormone-sensitive PCa (mPCa), which is a rare and aggressive disease characterized by a rapid progression to castration-resistance (CR) and poor overall survival (OS), contributing to almost 50% of PCa-related deaths. We identified 56 patients who had either progressed to CR (these patients were retrospectively analyzed for the time to the progression of CR and prospectively for OS) or had at least three months' follow-up postdiagnosis without CR progression and, thus, were prospectively analyzed for both CR and OS.

These peptides were tested in a large randomized trial to assess their ability to prevent recurrence in HER2 expressing breast cancer patients.

For over 20 years now, the immune mechanisms controlling cancer progression have been the focus of intensive research. It is well established that the immune system conveys protective antitumor immunity by destroying immunogenic tumor variants, but also facilitates tumor progression by shaping tumor immunogenicity in a process called "immunoediting".

Epigenetic reprogramming of NPSC represents a novel strategy for enhancing the intrinsic potential of the brain to regenerate after brain injury. Therefore, defining the epigenetic features of NSPCs is important for developing epigenetic therapies for targeted reprogramming of NSPCs to rescue neurologic function after injury.

Here, we aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of peritumoral tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) either alone or jointly with the intratumoral densities and spatial distribution of CD8 + and CD163 + cells in breast cancer (BCa) patients. TLS were identified peritumorally, within the area distancing up to 5 mm from the infiltrative tumor border, counted and further characterized as adjacent or distal, in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor tissue samples from a cohort of 167 patients, with histologically confirmed invasive ductal BCa.

The presence of immune infiltrates in the tumor microenvironment has been documented in many types of cancer. Moreover, the preexistent or endogenous immunity which consists of interactions between intratumoral lymphocytes and tumor cells is mostly relevant for the successful application of various anticancer therapies, including standard chemotherapy, immune checkpoint inhibition-based immunotherapy and targeted therapies. The immunoscore defines densities of intratumoral immune infiltrates which determine poor or favorable prognosis depending on their quantity and quality in the tumor compartments.

Method: Retrospective descriptive study. We compared the detection of RSV in respiratory samples of patients (hospitalized and not) from all age groups, from the 4 hospitals that are part of the microbiological surveillance system (MSS), with data from the Minimum Basic Data Set of hospitalization for bronchiolitis by RSV or another infectious organism, in patients under 5 years of age, admitted to any public hospital in Galicia (seasons 2008/2009 to 2016/2017).
Breast cancer (BCa) is a heterogeneous disease with different histological, prognostic and clinical aspects. Therefore, the need for identification of novel biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring of disease, as well as treatment outcome prediction remains at the forefront of research. The search for circulating elements, obtainable by simple peripheral blood withdrawal, which may serve as possible biomarkers, constitutes still a challenge.

Most recently, it was shown that the Mettl3-Mettl14 writer complex of this mark is required for the temporal control of cortical neurogenesis. The mA reader protein Ythdf2 promotes mRNA degradation by recognizing mA and recruiting the mRNA decay machinery.
