Vaccine coverage of healthcare students in hospitals of the Paris region in 2009: the Studyvax survey.

Introduction: Healthcare students should comply with the same vaccination recommendations as employed healthcare professionals. Vaccination coverage data for healthcare students are lacking

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional survey was carried out on medical, nursing and midwifery students in 15 hospitals of the Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris with a maternity ward. All midwifery students were surveyed, and a subset of medical and nursing students were selected from 10 hospitals by three-stage random sampling.

RAHN-2, a chromosomal extended-spectrum class A beta-lactamase from Rahnella aquatilis.

Objectives: Rahnella aquatilis is an environmental enterobacterial species with a chromosomal bla(RAHN-1) gene encoding extended-spectrum class A beta-lactamase RAHN-1. We describe the diversity of bla(RAHN) genes from two groups of strains, G1 and G2, isolated from raw fruits and vegetables, and the new class A beta-lactamase RAHN-2.

Methods: MICs were determined by Etest.

Organic and conventional fruits and vegetables contain equivalent counts of Gram-negative bacteria expressing resistance to antibacterial agents.

Resistance to antibiotics is a major public health problem which might culminate in outbreaks caused by pathogenic bacteria untreatable by known antibiotics. Most of the genes conferring resistance are acquired horizontally from already resistant commensal or environmental bacteria. Food contamination by resistant bacteria might be a significant source of resistance genes for human bacteria but has never been precisely assessed, nor is it known whether organic products differ in this respect from conventionally produced products.
