Background And Aims: Spontaneous ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma is an uncommon complication, and there are scarce data about non-cirrhotic patients. Tumor treatment is not standardized and the risk of peritoneal dissemination is unclear.
Aim: we analyzed the treatment and survival in patients with rHCC on non-cirrhotic liver.
Unlabelled: There is uncertainty regarding Wilson's disease (WD) management.
Objectives: To assess, in a multicenter Spanish retrospective cohort study, whether the approach to WD is homogeneous among centers.
Methods: Data on WD patients followed at 32 Spanish hospitals were collected.
Objective: To inform the update of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes clinical practice guidelines for nutrition therapy.
Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
Data Sources: Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Library searched up to 13 May 2021.
Older patients with hepatotoxicity have been scarcely studied in idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) cohorts. We sought the distinctive characteristics of DILI in older patients across age groups. A total of 882 DILI patients included in the Spanish DILI Registry (33% ≥ 65 years) were categorized according to age: "young" (< 65 years); "young-old" (65-74 years); "middle-old" (75-84 years); and "oldest-old" (≥ 85 years).

Objective: To describe and analyse predictive and prognostic factors of overall survival (OS) in high-grade gliomas at our institution.
Material And Method: All patients diagnosed with grade iii (GIII) or grade iv (GIV) gliomas (excluding oligodendrogliomas, oligoastrocytomas or infratentorial gliomas) were prospectively included from November 2010 to August 2014. All were treated with surgery followed by adjuvant radiochemotherapy.
Background & Aims: Chronic outcome following acute idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is not yet defined. This prospective, long-term follow-up study aimed to analyze time to liver enzyme resolutions to establish the best definition and risk factors of DILI chronicity.
Methods: 298 out of 850 patients in the Spanish DILI registry with no pre-existing disease affecting the liver and follow-up to resolution or ⩾1year were analyzed.
The characterization of the inclusion complex between 2-hydroxybenzophenone (2OHBP) and β-cyclodextrin (βCD) in the solid state was performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), powder X-ray diffractometry (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The apparent formation constant of the complex was determined by phase solubility diagrams and liquid chromatography (HPLC) at different temperatures. The formation of the inclusion complex induced slight shifts in the FTIR spectrum while by PXRD a new crystalline phase was observed.

We aimed to explore the validity of using aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) as biomarkers of hepatocelullar and cholestatic damage, respectively, when calculating the R value.
Methods: Clinical, laboratory and histological data from 588 DILI episodes included in the Spanish DILI Registry were analyzed.
Objective: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotyping and detection of resistance to drugs have become essential in epidemiological and clinical diagnosis. Our main objective was to determine the prevalence of HBV genotypes and drug-resistance mutations in chronic asymptomatic carriers and chronic HBV sufferers comparing 2 detection assays.
Methods: Serum samples from 28 chronic HBV patients and 22 chronic asymptomatic carriers were analyzed.
The solvatochromic characteristics of flavone and 7-hydroxyflavone were investigated in neat and binary solvent mixtures. The spectral shifts of these solutes were correlated with the Kamlet and Taft parameters (α, β and π*) using linear solvation energy relationships. The multiparametric analysis indicates that both specific hydrogen bond donor ability and non-specific dipolar interactions of the solvents play an important role in absorption maxima of flavone in pure solvents.

Aim: To evaluate the LAM, ADV and ETV resistance mutations detected in our patient group.
Materials And Methods: Twenty patients who had received at least two years of treatment with nucleoside/tide analogues were enrolled in this study.
Polybromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are one of the many toxic chemicals present in the environment and in the food we eat every day, being fish one of the main sources of persistent organic pollutants in our diet; like other lipid-related contaminants, they are of concern since they can bioaccumulate and biomagnify through the trophic chain. We published a study focused on the dietary uptake of dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorobiphenyls (dl-PCBs) in a set of samples of Spanish farmed turbot (Blanco et al., 2007).

Spectrophotometric measurements in aqueous solutions were performed at different temperatures. The stoichiometry of the complex is 1:1 and its apparent formation constant (K(c)) is 3846M(-1) at 30°C.

Gas chromatography (GC) separation followed by ion trap tandem mass spectrometry detection in EI mode (ITMS) allowed the analysis of di- to deca-BDEs in the samples matrices used in fish aquaculture. The method developed enabled the determination of 26 native PBDE congeners and 11 (13)C(12)-labelled congeners, including deca-BDE 209, in a single-run analysis, using isotope dilution.

Objective: The aims of this study were to evaluate therapy with lamivudine (LAM) and adefovir dipivoxil (ADV) monotherapy in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV)-infected patients with frequent measurements of DNA levels, to characterize HBV genotypes, and to determine the emergence of nucleos(t)ide analogue mutants before and during the therapy by direct-sequencing the reverse transcriptase region and by INNO-LiPA HBV DR v3.
Materials And Methods: A total of 15 chronic HBV patients were analysed: 11 were treated with ADV and four were treated with LAM.
Results: Viral genotype was determined, showing the presence of genotype D (73%) in 11 patients and genotype A (27%) in four patients.

The presence of mercury, cadmium and lead has been studied in raw and processed fish and shellfish of the main traded species in Galicia (Spain) from at least 40 commercial outlets between January 2002 and October 2003. The results show that, according to European legislation, the products on the market are generally "safe", although the high levels of mercury in swordfish and shark are notable, with 22% of samples (n = 37) over the limit. We also indicate the relatively important contribution to mercury ingestion of widely consumed species, such as tuna, with 25% of samples (n = 378) over 0.

Many variants of G6PD have been described, mostly produced from missense mutations, with wide ranging levels of enzyme activity and associated clinical symptoms.
Method: A single base extension assay is used, yielding a single base difference of the extended products.
Huntington disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with the expansion of a polymorphic trinucleotide CAG repeat in the HD gene. We have developed an assay to accurately determine CAG repeats that combines a novel oligonucleotide design and the resolution of capillary electrophoresis. A mismatch in the second nucleotide from the 3' end enhanced specificity by avoiding mispriming and diminishing shadow bands and artifactual PCR products.

Genetic and environmental factors that determine whether an individual will develop associated complications are still under investigation. The present study reports the genetic analysis of a family with different clinical forms of CF and addresses the difficulty of CF diagnosis in an individual with mutant alleles G542X and R117H because of the variable phenotype associated with R117H mutation.
