Left atrial appendage (LAA) closure can prevent stroke in high-risk patients with atrial fibrillation.A bioabsorbable LAA occluder made of degradable polymer materials, such as polydioxanone (PDO) and poly-L-lactic acid (PLA), and nitinol wire was used. Occluders were successfully implanted in 18 Chinese rural dogs, 2 of which died within 48 hours after operation due to pericardial tamponade and hemorrhage, respectively.

Background: The combination of left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) and catheter ablation (CA) in a single procedure is a safe and effective form of treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, several findings have argued that LAAC might increase the risk of AF recurring. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of insufficient ablation on AF recurrence after the hybrid procedures of CA and LAAC.

Aims: Left atrial appendage electrical isolation (LAAEI) has demonstrated a significant enhancement in the success rate of atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation. Nevertheless, concerns persist about the safety of LAAEI, particularly regarding alterations in left atrial appendage (LAA) flow velocity and the potential risks of thrombus. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of LAAEI, investigating changes in LAA flow velocity in canines.

PRKAG2 is required for the maintenance of cellular energy balance. PRKAG2-AS1, a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), was found within the promoter region of PRKAG2. Despite the extensive expression of PRKAG2-AS1 in endothelial cells, the precise function and mechanism of this gene in endothelial cells have yet to be elucidated.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a multifaceted cardiovascular condition that imposes significant economic and social burdens on society, while also presenting a dearth of efficacious treatment modalities. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) possess the ability to influence the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying cardiac disease through their regulation of gene transcription, translation, and post-translational modifications. Additionally, certain lncRNAs can be encoded by the mitochondrial genome, hence impacting mitochondrial function.

Key Clinical Message: Atrial flutter (AFL) and supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) are common arrhythmias in clinic. However, some AFL cases may present additional complexities, such as both accessory pathways (AP) and dual atrioventricular node pathways, putting on a mysterious mask and making it challenging to distinguish on electrocardiograms (ECGs).

Abstract: A 60-year-old male patient had a sudden syncope, and an ECG showed wide QRS complex tachycardia.

The role of PRKAG2 in the maintenance of heart function is well established, but little is known about how PRKAG2 is regulated in cardiomyocytes. In this study, we investigated the role of the lncRNA PRKAG2-AS, which is present at the PRKAG2 promoter, in the regulation of PRKAG2 expression. PRKAG2-AS expression was predominantly nuclear, as determined by RNA nucleoplasmic separation and fluorescence in situ hybridization.

Most researches use the fixed-length sample to identify ECG abnormalities based on MIT ECG dataset, which leads to information loss. To address this problem, this paper proposes a method for ECG abnormality detection and health warning based on ECG Holter of PHIA and 3R-TSH-L method. The 3R-TSH-L method is implemented by:(1) getting 3R ECG samples using Pan-Tompkins method and using volatility to obtain high-quality raw ECG data; (2) extracting combination features including time-domain features, frequency domain features and time-frequency domain features; (3) using LSTM for classification, training and testing the algorithm based on the MIT-BIH dataset, and obtaining relatively optimal features as spliced normalized fusion features including kurtosis, skewness and RR interval time domain features, STFT-based sub-band spectrum features, and harmonic ratio features.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive and life-threatening disease characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling, which may cause right heart failure and even death. Accumulated evidence confirmed that microRNA-26 family play critical roles in cardiovascular disease; however, their function in PAH remains largely unknown. Here, we investigated the expression of miR-26 family in plasma from PAH patients using quantitative RT-PCR, and identified miR-26a-5p as the most downregulated member, which was also decreased in hypoxia-induced pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell (PASMC) autophagy models and lung tissues of PAH patients.

Nuclear pore complex in the nuclear envelope plays an important role in controlling the transportation of RNAs, proteins and other macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The relationship between abnormal expression of nucleoporins and cardiovascular diseases is unclear. In this study we investigated how myocardial infarction affected the expression and function of nucleoporins in cardiomyocytes.

Asymptomatic recurrences of atrial fibrillation (AF) have been found to be common after ablation.A randomized controlled trial of AF screening using a handheld single-lead ECG monitor (BigThumb) or a traditional follow-up strategy was conducted in patients with non-valvular AF after catheter ablation. Consecutive patients were randomized to either BigThumb Group (BT Group) or Traditional Follow-up Group (TF Group).

Purpose: It has been observed that patients on rivaroxaban require more heparin and frequent activated clotting time (ACT) monitoring throughout the catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation, but the strategy of heparin injection varies in different studies. We sought to examine the determinants of heparin dosage in Chinese patients on rivaroxaban.

Methods: We reviewed consecutive patients who received rivaroxaban before atrial fibrillation ablation and compared them to patients on no anticoagulant.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a severe heart disease caused by acute, persistent ischemia or hypoxia and finally leads to heart failure and sudden death. However, the intrinsic molecular mechanisms of MI remain largely unknown. lncRNAs have also been implicated in the process of ischemic heart diseases.

Angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced damage to endothelial cells (ECs) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to investigate the role of maternally expressed gene 3 (Meg3) in endothelial cell injury. A lncRNA human gene expression microarray analysis was used to identify differentially expressed lncRNAs in human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVECs).

Cardiac fibrosis is a pathological remodeling response to myocardial infarction (MI) and impairs cardiac contractility. Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is increased in patients with MI. However, the functions of MALAT1 in cardiac fibrosis have not been elucidated.

Alcohol abuse is a risk factor for a distinct form of congestive heart failure, known as alcoholic cardiomyopathy (ACM). Here, we investigate how microRNAs may participate in the induction of cardiomyocyte apoptosis associated with ethanol exposure in vitro. Increasing the concentrations of ethanol to primary rat cardiomyocytes resulted in elevated apoptosis assessed by annexin V and propidium iodide staining, and reduced expression of an enzyme for alcohol detoxification aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2).
