Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties of the 14-item health literacy scale (HL-14) in patients living with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in clinical setting.
Methods: Cross-sectional study using item response theory and structural equation modeling (SEM) for testing the item difficulty and three dimensional-HL configurations was adopted in this study. Chinese patients living with T2DM admitted to endocrinology department of Huadong hospital were evaluated by the HL-14 including communication, functional and critical health literacy from August to December 2021.
Background: Policosanol is a mixture of long-chain alcohols isolated from sugar cane. This controlled, randomized clinical trial was designed to compare the efficacy and safety of fenofibrate, policosanol and a combination of these 2 in lowering low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in elderly patients with mixed dyslipidemia.
Methods: A total of 102 patients aged ≥60years were randomly assigned into 3 groups: patients receiving a 24-week therapy of fenofibrate (200 mg/day), policosanol (20 mg/day) or fenofibrate + policosanol combination.
Aims: To compare the efficacy and the safety of low-dose (3.5 mg/kg) or standard-dose (5 mg/kg) of infliximab (IFX) for induction and maintenance treatment in Chinese patients with intestinal Behcet's disease (BD), and to identify potential predictors to corticosteroid-free clinical remission at week 30.
Methods: A prospective trial was conducted in 20 patients with moderate-to-severe active intestinal BD, followed up for 30 weeks.
Aims: To examine the expression of miRNAs and mRNAs of heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) in patients with active intestinal Behcet's disease (BD).
Methods: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from BD patients with active ileocecal ulcers or from healthy donors. Expression levels of four miRNAs were studied using real-time PCR.

Aim: To report the incidence, clinical features and outcomes of gastrointestinal (GI) involvement in Behcet's disease (BD).
Methods: A total of 168 consecutive patients with BD were screened and upper and lower GI endoscopies were performed in 148 patients. Four hundred age- and sex-matched controls were enrolled for comparison.
Objective: To review the senescent remodeling of the immune system with aging and its relevance to the increased susceptibility of the elderly to infectious diseases, along with an outlook on emerging immunological biomarkers.
Data Sources: The data selected were from PubMed with relevant published articles in English or French from 1995 to the present. Searches were made using the terms "immunosenescence" and "aging" paired with the following: "innate immunity", "T-cell", "B-cell", "adaptive immunity" and "biomarkers".

With the changing global demographic pattern, our health care systems increasingly have to deal with a greater number of elderly patients, which consequently also takes its toll on our surgical services. The elderly are not simply older adults. They represent a heterogeneous branch of the population with specific physiological, psychological, functional and social issues that require individualised attention prior to surgery.
