Short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) are a complex mixture of chlorinated derivatives of n-alkanes with a chain length of 10-13 carbon atoms. SCCPs have been extensively used in industrial applications, although an alarming concern is increasingly raised in hazarding environmental matrices and biological organisms due to the environmental persistence, bioaccumulation potential, biotoxicity, and long-range atmospheric transport. Herein, this study conducted a critical review of human internal exposure to SCCPs and its concerning health risks by thoroughly analyzing 63 relevant articles screened in online databases, including the Web of Science, PubMed, Elsevier ScienceDirect, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI).

Our objective for this article is to illustrate the importance of understanding digital skill as process by taking its mediality-interweaving tools, technologies, and media-into consideration. Drawing on 12 case studies with participants performing digital tasks, we use Ingold's four phases of skill (getting ready, setting out, carrying on, and finishing off) to research and represent the rhythm of digital skill. By using medialities of inscription, scripting, and annotation, we demonstrate how researchers can use mediality to perceive rhythms of digital skill without being physically co-located in the performance.

The rapid development of GaAs photocathodes has led to an increased focus on the attainment of high quantum efficiency. Three types of exponential-doping structures with a high to low doping concentration distribution from the interior to the surface are proposed for reflective GaAs emission layers. These three structures generate different built-in electric fields that facilitate photoelectron emission.

Hydroxyl polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OH-PAHs) are frequently used as biomarkers to assess human exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are typically present in minute concentrations in the human body. Although several studies have outlined methods for measuring OH-PAHs in human urine, these approaches may have limitations concerning the range of compounds detected, the sample volume required for pre-treatment, accuracy, and instrument maintenance costs. Advances in mass spectrometry technology have facilitated the use of various mass spectrometry modes based on gas chromatography.

Current crop stress resistance research suggests that the prominent stimulants nanoselenium (NSe) and melatonin (MT) might improve tea safety, quality, and stress resistance induced by the widely used nonselective herbicide glufosinate (GLU). Their biofortification effects on tea growth, antioxidant activity, and secondary metabolism pathways response to GLU remain unclear. Here, NSe, MT, and their combination NSe-MT effectively reduced 26.

  • PFNA is being increasingly used as a substitute for PFOS and PFOA, but its effects on cancer, particularly ovarian cancer, have been underexplored.
  • Research showed that exposure to PFNA at environmental levels (0.25-2 mM) didn’t affect cell growth but significantly increased the invasion and migration of ovarian cancer cells, linked to changes in EMT markers.
  • The study identified that PFNA activates the TGF-β/SMADs pathway by degrading SMAD7 through the ubiquitin-proteasome system, highlighting its role in promoting ovarian cancer metastasis.

Developing an effective method to stably enhance the quantum efficiency (QE) and extend the photoemission threshold of Cu photocathodes beyond the ultraviolet region could benefit the photoinjector for ultrafast electron source applications. The implementation of a 2D material protective layer is considered a promising approach to extending the operating lifetime of photocathodes. We propose that graphene can serve as an intermediate layer at the interface between photocathode material and low-work-function coating.

The use of seawater sea sand concrete (SSSC) and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) has broad application prospect in island and coastal areas. However, the elastic modulus of FRP reinforcement is obviously lower than that of ordinary steel reinforcement, and the properties of SSSC are different from that of ordinary concrete, which results in a limit in the bearing capacity and stiffness of structures. In order to improve the flexural performance of FRP-reinforced SSSC beams, a novel SSSC beam with built-in glass FRP (GFRP) tubes was proposed in this study.
