The zero-tannin trait in lentil is controlled by a single recessive gene (tan) that results in a phenotype characterized by green stems, white flowers, and thin, transparent, or translucent seed coats. Genes that result in zero-tannin characteristics are useful for studies of seed coat pigmentation and biochemical characters because they have altered pigmentation. In this study, one of the major groups of plant pigments, phenolic compounds, was compared among zero-tannin and normal phenotypes and genotypes of lentil.

Agonist-replacement therapies have been successfully used for treatment of opiate and nicotine addiction, but not for cocaine addiction. One of the major obstacles is the cocaine-like addictive potential of the agonists themselves. We report here an atypical dopamine (DA) transporter (DAT) inhibitor, CTDP-32476, that may have translational potential for treating cocaine addiction.

Service routes optimization (SRO) of pallet service center should meet customers' demand firstly and then, through the reasonable method of lines organization, realize the shortest path of vehicle driving. The routes optimization of pallet service center is similar to the distribution problems of vehicle routing problem (VRP) and Chinese postman problem (CPP), but it has its own characteristics. Based on the relevant research results, the conditions of determining the number of vehicles, the one way of the route, the constraints of loading, and time windows are fully considered, and a chance constrained programming model with stochastic constraints is constructed taking the shortest path of all vehicles for a delivering (recycling) operation as an objective.

The value of a treatment regime is the average outcome of a population of patients if they were all treated in accordance to the treatment regime, where large values are desirable. The optimal treatment regime is a regime which results in the greatest value.

The most active EM-A dimer, compound 1b, that carrying C6 methoxyl groups was further investigated and showed potent antiproliferative activity in six other human tumor cell lines. Flow cytometry analysis of 1b treated HeLa and MCF-7 cells indicated that the four-atom EM-A dimers induced the SubG1 phase cell cycle arrest and cell apoptosis, in time- and dose-dependent manners.

Thus, the pore network model extracted from the natural porous media is emphasized as a breakthrough to predict the fluid transport properties in the complex micro pore structure. This paper presents a modified method of extracting the equivalent pore network model from the three-dimensional micro computed tomography images based on the maximum ball algorithm.

Some evidence suggests that hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated (HCN) channels play important roles in the functional modulation of dopaminergic neurons and the pathophysiology of related diseases. However, little is known about the effects of HCN channels on methamphetamine addiction.

Most existing variable selection techniques focused on selecting variables that are important for prediction, therefore some variables that are poor in prediction but are critical for decision-making may be ignored. A qualitative interaction of a variable with treatment arises when treatment effect changes direction as the value of this variable varies.

We have previously found that the increased inflammatory and osteogenic responses to Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) stimulation is correlated with lower signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (Stat3) activity in aortic valve interstitial cells (AVICs). Rapamycin, a drug used clinically, induces feedback activation of Akt.

For the purpose of further understanding the mechanism of SC generation in fiber amplifiers, we propose a combined numerical model of the laser rate equations and the generalized non-linear Schrödinger equation to simulate the amplification of 1060 nm picosecond pulses and their spectral broadening in an ytterbium-doped fiber amplifier. The calculation results of this model are compared with the experimental results under the same conditions and a good agreement is achieved.

Saikosaponins, one of the representative bioactive ingredients in Radix Bupleuri, possess hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antitumor, and other pharmacological activities. Up to now, few studies focused on the further metabolism of saikosaponins and their secondary metabolites absorbed into the circulatory system.

DNA damage responses induced by MNNG activate various DNA repair genes and related signaling pathways. The present study aimed to investigate the regulatory mechanisms of human RR small subunit M2 (hRRM2) in response to MNNG.

Methods: A panel of radioligand-receptor binding assays was performed to identify the affinities of Y-QA31 for different G protein-coupled receptors. [(35)S]GTPγS-binding assays and Ca(2+) imaging were used to assess its intrinsic activities.
Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a key factor for hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. Ribonucleotide reductase (RR) regulates the deoxyribonucleoside triphosphates biosynthesis and serves as a target for anti-cancer therapy. Here, we demonstrate that RR is essential for HBV replication and the viral covalently-closed-circular DNA (cccDNA) synthesis in host liver cells.

Two problems arise: (i) in a world of explosively big data, effective methods are needed to handle ultra-high dimensional data set, for example, with the dimension of predictors is of the non-polynomial (NP) order of the sample size; (ii) both the propensity score and conditional mean models need to be estimated from data under NP dimensionality. In this paper, we propose a robust procedure for estimating the optimal treatment regime under NP dimensionality.

Change-point models are widely used by statisticians to model drastic changes in the pattern of observed data. Least squares/maximum likelihood based estimation of change-points leads to curious asymptotic phenomena. When the change-point model is correctly specified, such estimates generally converge at a fast rate () and are asymptotically described by minimizers of a jump process.

Mitochondrial permeability transition (mPT) pore opening in arteriolar smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) is involved in the pathogenesis of vascular hyporeactivity. However, the molecular mechanism underlying mitochondrial injury in ASMCs during hemorrhagic shock is not well understood.

Introduction: Rhizoma et Radix Polygoni Cuspidati (Huzhang in Chinese, HZ) is a traditional medicinal plant in China. Many of the components of HZ have been proved to be bioactive while it is difficult to conduct a comprehensive chemical profiling of HZ as a consequence of the absence of efficient separation system and sensitive detective means. We developed a simple and effective method for comprehensive characterization of constituents in HZ.
