Grazing at near-natural stocking rates is increasingly rare, whereas abandonment and overgrazing is common, despite both leading to loss of threatened species. Here, we evaluate a biodiversity-promotion strategy of a beef-producing company involving livestock grazing for conservation. Using field surveys, a national biodiversity map, and farmer interviews, we evaluate the conservation potential of farmers committing to a conservation grazing scheme.

Article Synopsis
  • Diabetes-related lower extremity complications, such as diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), require a collaborative approach involving multiple sectors and healthcare professionals to improve patient care and outcomes.
  • A realistic evaluation was conducted, observing 14 patients in Denmark for 60 hours to understand the interactions between patients and healthcare providers in both home and outpatient settings.
  • Key findings highlighted that humor strengthens relationships, patient coping strategies foster collaboration, and fixed identity roles exist between patients and professionals, informing future strategies to enhance health literacy and patient care.

Introduction: When older persons with dementia are admitted to hospital, they often feel disoriented and confused and their cognitive impairment may worsen, purely due to the sudden change in their environment. As such hospital design is recognised as an important aspect in the care and well-being of older persons with dementia. As the number of persons with dementia is increasing, the experience of admission to a hospital with, for example, single rooms is more relevant than ever.

Introduction: Shared decision making (SDM) has become a crucial element on the political agenda and represents a vital aspect of modern healthcare. However, successful implementation of SDM highly depends on the attitude of clinicians towards SDM. The overall aim of our study was to explore the experience of oncologists and nurses with SDM using the Decision Helper, an in-consultation decision aid, at four Danish radiotherapy departments.

Background: After curative surgery for early-stage breast cancer, patients face a decision on whether to undergo surgery alone or to receive one or more adjuvant treatments, which may lower the risk of recurrence. Variations in survival outcomes are often marginal but there are differences in the side effects and other features of the options that patients may value differently. Hence, the patient's values and preferences are critical in determining what option to choose.

Background And Purpose: Shared decision making (SDM) is a patient engaging process advocated especially for preference-sensitive decisions, such as adjuvant treatment after breast cancer. An increasing call for patient engagement in decision making highlights the need for a systematic SDM approach. The objective of this trial was to investigate whether the Decision Helper (DH), an in-consultation patient decision aid, increases patient engagement in decisions regarding adjuvant whole breast irradiation.

Background: The field of Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) has developed over the past six decades. However, the definition of roles and responsibilities of APN nurses seem to be contested due to both a lack of a clear definition of the concept and to institutional and cultural barriers that restrict the nurses' opportunities to practise to the full extent of their competencies.

Aim: The objective of this scoping review was to identify, examine and conceptually map the available literature on APN nurses' core competencies for general health assessment in primary health care.

Purpose Of Review: To provide an updated review of scientific literature concerning associations between pregnancy and cardiovascular health among women, and to discuss a possible impact of microchimerism on the association.

Recent Findings: In most studies, pregnancy and childbirth is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease in women. Some ascribe the association mainly to lifestyle, whereas others suggest that pregnancy itself negatively affects women's cardiovascular health.

Aim And Objective: To evaluate evidence that examined nurses' work experiences in hospital wards with single rooms. The research question was 'What does the research tell us about nurses' work experiences in hospital wards with single rooms?'

Background: In the last decades, new hospital builds have moved towards including a high proportion of single rooms. Yet, single rooms create 'complex environments' that impact the nurses.

Nowadays, it is common that newly built hospitals are designed with single-room accommodation, unlike in the past, where shared accommodation was the favoured standard. Despite this change in hospital design, very little is known about how single-room accommodation affects nurses' work environment and nursing care. This study evaluates how the single-room design affects nurses and nursing care in the single-room hospital design.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore how a single-room hospital design influenced student nurses' learning and competence development in clinical practice compared with shared-room accommodation, refining the programme theory: The student nurses' conditions for learning in single-room hospital design are associated with the values of the patient room as the patient's home during hospitalisation.

Background: It is evident that a hospital design with single-room accommodation influences several parameters for both the patients and staff. Furthermore, studies have shown that the physical as well as the psychological learning environment affects the learning outcome for student nurses.

Background: Arabic-speaking men are a sparsely investigated population in health promotion and disease prevention. This may hamper their ability to achieve the highest obtainable health due to less accessibility and acceptability of preventive measures.

Aim: We explored Arabic-speaking (Palestinian, Iraqi and Somali) male immigrants' perceptions of preventive initiatives in general and such initiatives for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in particular to understand how to address inequalities in engagement in prevention.

In the intensive care and perioperative setting, circulation is often supported by intravenous fluid preceded by prediction of fluid responsiveness during a passive leg raising (PLR) maneuver. An increase in stroke volume (SV) or cardiac output (CO) of 10%-15% indicates that the subject may increase the flow upon volume expansion. However, the semi-recumbent position as an initial position in PLR likely reduces SV by gravitational displacement of central blood volume (CBV) to lower extremities, thereby accentuating volume responsiveness during leg raising in healthy people.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common, complex and severe complication of diabetes that is associated with severely decreased health-related quality of life. Treatment of DFUs calls for a multi-sectoral approach, incorporating interdisciplinary care pathways. Telemedicine (TM) may be used as a communication tool between caregivers across healthcare sectors to obligate the need for close follow-up, including early intervention in preventing the recurrence of DFU.

Objective: Preoperative location of hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands (HPGs) is vital when planning minimally invasive surgery in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Dual-isotope subtraction scintigraphy with Tc-MIBI/ Iodide using SPECT/CT and planar pinhole imaging (Di-SPECT) has shown high sensitivity, but is challenged by high radiation dose, time consumption and cost. C-Choline PET/CT (faster with a lower radiation dose) is non-inferior to Di-SPECT.

The mean systemic pressure analog (Pmsa), calculated from running hemodynamic data, estimates mean systemic filling pressure (MSFP). This post hoc study used data from a porcine veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) model [ = 9; ; ES breed (Schweizer Edelschwein)] with eight experimental conditions; Euvolemia [a volume state where ECMO flow produced normal mixed venous saturation (SO) without vascular collapse]; three levels of increasing norepinephrine infusion (Vasoconstriction 1-3); status after stopping norepinephrine (Post Vasoconstriction); and three steps of volume expansion (10 mL/kg crystalloid bolus) (Volume Expansion 1-3). In each condition, Pmsa and a "reduced-pump-speed-Pmsa" (Pmsa) were calculated from baseline and briefly reduced pump speeds, respectively.

It is important to study the well-being of patients and their relatives after receiving hospital treatment, as both the healthcare professional and the political attention towards user participation is constantly increasing. In this study, user participation is understood as a way to manage the user's rights, opportunity for choices and human rights through relationships and with their well-being as a common goal. Therefore, the health professionals' understanding of this must be increased, evidence must increasingly form the basis for the chosen actions and the professional management must support a person-oriented clinical practice.

Background: Use of C-Choline PET/CT is gaining ground in detecting hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands in primary hyperparathyroidism. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the robustness of C-Choline PET/CT by assessing intra- and inter-observer agreement to determine whether the method was reader sensitive and therefore should only be performed at highly specialised sites with a high number of cases. PET/CT images of 40 patients diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism were anonymised and evaluated three times by three readers: an expert reader and two non-experts (non-experts were experienced in PET/CT imaging, but not in C-Choline PET/CT in the setting of primary hyperparathyroidism).
