Differences and similarities between 25 eighth-grade truants and 25 nontruants-matched for age, grade, gender, and ethnicity-were explored on four dimensions: family variables, friendship patterns and interests, behavior and attitudes toward school, and cognitive factors including academic ability and achievement. The major differences were in school behavior, attitudes, academic ability, and achievement. The most frequent reasons given for truancy were boredom and dislike of school and teachers.

Long-standing disseminated lesions of pityriasis versicolor (PV) were found in 101 patients. As they had failed to respond to various topical agents, we treated them with 200 mg/day of ketoconazole. All of them were under clinical and mycological surveillance at weekly intervals.

Studies of the effect of the menstrual cycle on standardized cognitive tasks, work and academic performance, perceptual-motor performance, and psychophysiological measures are reviewed. The weight of the evidence argues against a menstrual cycle effect on behavior. Studies of self report and of behaviors reflecting self confidence suggest that beliefs of menstrual debilitation remain in the population.

CT was carried out in 50 patients with clinical suspicion of hyperparathyroidism, in order to localise the adenoma. In 45 patients, the diagnosis was confirmed at operation and adenomas or hyperplastic glands were removed. Computed tomography (CT) has been performed in 21 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) in an attempt to localize preoperatively the parathyroid tumors. Eighteen of these patients also had ultrasound examinations. The CT examinations included the neck and mediastinum and were performed before and after contrast medium administration.

A questionnaire assessing subjective level of job stress and physical health over the past two years was completed by 173 women in university (non-faculty) positions. Health was divided into two categories: menstrual dysfunction and other non-menstrual symptoms. Two samples, matched for age, were selected: women in high-paying positions (N = 72) and women in low-paying positions (N = 101).

Over a 3-month period 22 asthmatic children were treated with a sustained-release theophylline preparation (Nuelin Retard, Riker) in twice-daily doses. During the first 2 weeks of treatment slight side-effects were observed in 14 children. Over the remaining 10-week period only four children experienced minor-side-effects.

The diagnostic ranking and importance of computerised tomography was examined in 116 patients with abnormal findings in the mediastinal region, and was compared with conventional, non-invasive x-ray examinations. This method also yielded significant CT-specific additional information in the anterior mediastinum in 74.4% of the cases, in the mesomediastinum in 69.
