Background: Colonic diverticular disease exhibits mucosal outpouchings through the large intestine. Common complications of this disease are diverticular bleeding and diverticulitis. Some patients with colonic diverticular disease have abdominal symptoms resembling irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
