Opportunistic pathogens, such as Aeromonas hydrophila, can cause damage to freshwater crayfish (Astacus leptodactylous) in some situations. In addition to direct damage to the body, microplastics (MPs) can also be responsible for transmitting pathogens to the animal. Accordingly, this research was prepared to investigate the effects of MP on the damage caused by A.

Article Synopsis
  • Marine pollution poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health, particularly through the bioaccumulation of heavy metals in marine species.
  • This study focused on measuring the concentrations of six heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Pb, Hg, Ni, Cd) in the muscle tissue of certain fish and sharks from the Persian Gulf, revealing that Codium arabicum had the highest metal levels.
  • The findings indicated concerning levels of mercury, especially for fishermen and consumers, highlighting potential health risks due to dietary exposure to contaminated marine life, underscoring the need for further investigation and awareness.

This work presents a continuous roll-to-roll electrochemical coating system for producing silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl)-coated yarns, and their application in e-textile electrodes for biosignal monitoring. Ag/AgCl is one of the most preferred electrode materials as an interface between the conductive backbone of an electrode and skin. E-textile Ag/AgCl-coated multi-filament nylon yarns offer stable, flexible, and breathable alternatives to standard rigid or flexible film-based Ag/AgCl electrodes.

The synthesis of highly functionalized bis-β-lactams containing aromatic rings was achieved by thermal and microwave-assisted methods starting from easily available 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)acetic acid and 2,2'-(propane-2,2-diyl)diphenol precursors. The approach to these valuable heterocyclic scaffolds involved formal [2π + 2π] cycloadditions between Schiff bases and novel bisketenes, which were generated in situ, followed by an electrocyclic reaction of zwitterionic intermediates. Reactions carried out under microwave irradiation were clean and gave high yields with significantly reduced reaction times.

Background: Conventional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery, often affect the patients' quality of life due to their serious side effects, indicating the urgent need to develop less toxic and more effective alternative treatments. Medicinal plants and their derivatives are invaluable sources for such remedies. The present study aimed to determine the chemical composition, anticancer and antibacterial activities of Nepeta mahanesis essential oil (EO).

Molecular circuits have been used in a wide range of diagnosis applications, from the detection of chemical molecules in solution to the complex processing of cell surface receptors. One of the most important challenges of these systems is the lack of distinguishability between different circuit states when each circuit state represents a specific disease. In this work, we designed a molecular amplification circuit with borderline Boolean states that each state can be distinguished with different color intensity.

Exposure to microorganisms such as Yersinia ruckeri can significantly affect bacterial infections in fish. Microplastics (MPs) may predispose fish to infection and act as carriers in pathogen transmission. Therefore, this study is designed to evaluate MPs' effect on damage caused by exposure to Y.

This study was conducted to measure concentrations of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr), and iron (Fe) in blood serum and feces of mugger crocodile (Crocodylus palustris) and in water and sediment of their habitat (Negour site, Chabahar County in Sistan and Baluchistan Province, Iran). Heavy metal contents in crocodile serum and feces, water, and sediments were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES spectrometer-Spectro Genesis). The highest levels of heavy metals in the mugger crocodile's serum were Fe > Hg > Pb > Cr > Cu > Cd > As, respectively.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer. Chemotherapy-induced adverse effects and resistance of NSCLC to conventional drugs reduce the efficacy of current therapies. Tumors contain a small population of cancer stem cells (CSCs) that play a critical role in tumor initiation, maintenance, and drug resistance that finally lead to cancer recurrence.
